We will see, but it's looks that a M2 competition is just a normal MY19 M2 equipped with a S55 engine and a optional competition pack. If the pricing of the M4 CS is anything to go by then a M2 CS is going to be massively overpriced...or maybe BMW is not going to make that mistake twice?
Really? ask them how much it costs for a base M2 without the comp pack?

Hey guys, I've been reading rumors and posts and have a couple of questions. By the way I currently own a 2016 M4 in Mineral Gray Metallic. I am #5 on my dealer's waiting list for the new M2. From what I'm seeing there appears to be no Mineral Gray Metallic for the new M2? Although that new orange color is quite sharp looking I was hoping to have the option of opting for the Mineral Gray Metallic.

Also my understanding is that the M2 Competition will be introduced in Beijing on April 25th at the car show; and the internet release of the car will be few days prior. Production is to begin in July, 2018 with deliveries beginning late summer. I'm figuring to have my car no later than November, 2018. Of course all of this is pure speculation at this point.

Thanks!

136 pre-series M2 Competition cars retrieved so far. All AW, BSM, LBB, Sunset O and HS, but none in Mineral Grey Metallic. Bad omen for MG hopefuls.

Pre-series cars reported to get a 'special check':
  • 4 'movie cars':
    • color: 4 x HS
    • transmission: 1 x 6MT | 3 x M-DCT
  • 5 'press vehicles':
    • color: 5 x HS
    • transmission: 3 x 6MT | 2 x M-DCT
  • 7 'trade fair/photo vehicles':
    • color: 3 x HS | 2 x SO | 1 x AW | 1 x BSM
    • transmission: 1 x 6MT | 6 x M-DCT
  • 1 'type test vehicle':
    • color: 1 x AW
    • transmission: 1 x M-DCT
  • 3 'photo vehicles for new series run-in':
    • color: 2 x HS | 1 x SO
    • transmission: 1 x 6MT | 2 x M-DCT

Thanks Artemis.

Looks like BMW is really betting large on HS.

Wow a 400+ hp M2 would be amazing. I had the chance to toss around several M2s at the 2 Day M school and I thought they were really really fun, with the M3 and M4's advantage being only the power. With this power bump there is no doubt in my mind that the M2 CS is the M car to get. I thought I would be left out in the cold with the M3/4 being out of production by the time my lease is up, but I think I the M2 CS will do nicely!!

My 2016 M4 is generating close to 570 hp after calculating 18% bump at dyno. I've got the Dinan Stage 3, cold air intake, Dinan exhaust, catless downpipes and Dinan high performance intercooler.

At Bradenton Motor Speedway I ran the 1/4 mile at 11.7 seconds and 121 mph. and this before adding the Stage 3 and while running street tires and not using Launch Control.

My point is that the M2 with the S55 engine should be able to be tuned as above with a substantial gain in hp and torque, and with its lighter weight (400 lbs.) should prove to be a beast at the track.

That's assuming the turbos are the same etc etc. some have speculated that the S55 in the M2 may not be the exact same S55 SKU that goes in the M3/M4.

Time will tell I guess.

Bean counters run BMW, I do not see them developing separate turbos for the M2 Comp. They will just lower boost.

S55 power level is detuned to 302kW for the M2 Competition.

Time will tell if it's merely engine management or whether also the S55 engine layout is structurally modified.

It depends on the packages, the M2 is generally 40-100lbs lighter than a comparably equipped M3/4. IMHO it's the shorter wheelbase that allows for better cornering because more weight can be transferred on the weighted wheels. One would hope that with the CS, even more weight can be shaved off the M2, allowing for more of a weight advantage. Even 100 more lbs can help

Sport seat or m4 seat alone probably will save M2 30lbs. With other bolt on lightweight parts like roof/hood/trunk (if they're ever made for m2), m2 is easily a 100lbs lighter car than M4.

100% agree.

That's what I have been saying all along. Why would BMW develop another version of the S55, when we know their focus is on the S58.

We will know soon enough, if we can "Re-tune the De-tune"

Ooops my bad on the weight. Yeah, everything I've read states anywhere from 25 to 100 lbs. lighter. I'm happy with any weight reduction.

In my opinion the M2 S55 engine will likely be easily tuned to kick up the hp and torque. I will definitely incorporate the Dinan goodies when available.

My current consternation is car color. I was leaning toward the Grey Metallic which is the color of my M4 but it seems it might not be offered in the M2. I would consider silver unless it is very light. While the orange is pretty I'm not certain that I want such an "in your face" color. Black and white are no for me. Possibly the blue but it just seems a little tame for an aggressive sports car.

I would like to hear others opinions on car color that they prefer. Thanks

Hockenheim Silver Metallic is a light silver color.

You didn't miss the fact the M2 didn't have an adjustable suspension on the track vs the M4? Was just the power you thought was its only weak point?

Honestly I'm probably not skilled enough to discern what was the suspension and what was inherited different due to the smaller wheelbase. I would add though that we didn't take the M2 on the big track. The M3/4s felt very stable at 140mph and the M2's undoubtedly not as much if we had tried.

The color silver is clearly the winner. Is it really that much more stylish looking or is there another reason for the majority who choose it? Maybe several carbon fiber add-on's would enhance the look?

No one has seen HS in person yet. So the people voted basically voted because its the new color offered and are tired of seeing AW, LBB, etc.
