M Performance Coilvers, worth it???
According to my sales guy (true or not) there are currently 14 sets of the M Performance Coilovers available as of yesterday. If I wanted them, I would need to get them on order, so it’ll be at the dealer by the time the car arrives (eta) 07/22. Not having driven the M2C (yes, I placed the order on based on spec and reviews) or the OG M2 I don’t know how the car handles or even if the suspension needs to be upgraded. I did have a stock E46 M3 albeit it was a convertible. I know there are a whole lot more options to choose from, but I want to include in the finance.
Is it worth getting… |

It matters what you bought your M2 for. The coil overs are great for the track but add very little on the street.
The stock suspension is stiff but not uncomfortable and has next to no lean on the street. It has a much better stock suspension than your E46 M3. (I am also a former owner of an E46 M3 so I have personal experience). I saved the money and currently have the stock suspension. |

I actually went to bed last night with the intention of ordering this first thing this morning so that I could have it ready for installation during my 1200 mile service, but I'm on the fence. I am looking for a slight drop but not sure I'm prepared to get knocked around the cabin.

Put the Ohlins RT kit on my M2C. Worth it, and imagine the M Performance coil overs would be, too.

A bit too much wheel gap for me. Also want the car to handle a bit better so i think it's worth it. I'm saving my pennies.

The car definitely needs a drop from the factory ride height. The ride quality is good out of the box however so If you aren't tracking IMO you don't need $2500+ coilovers. I've got the KW HAS kit myself and I love it.

They're fine. While my car ran they were a bit rough, but so is stock suspension. Drop is minimal but I was looking into KW spring replacement for the rear coilovers to drop it more... but then the motor decided to blow up and trans take a poop

I left the M2 stock.
I installed the M Performance coil overs on the M2C and I love them. Way less jarring than the M2 and flat around turns. I had the coil overs installed before delivery. and cannot comment on the M2C with the stock suspension. Last edited by omasou; 05-09-2020 at 12:49 PM.. |

thanks for the links... These options are actually perfect since it'll basically be a DD car w/ some spirited driving and twisties and may see the track once or twice a year. Saw some previous reviews on both with KW standing out more due to more height adjustability & progressive. Plus for Dinan is warranty. |

I am hesitant to use just lowering springs on a new M car. We paid $65k for a M car that handles phenomenally and people want to put on just springs and do not want to put coilovers on? This is not a civic or corolla.

KW V3 was the first thing I did to my wifes 2018M2. If you track at all it is a vast improvement. The M2 is very unstable at high speeds and this cures that. It is also much better as a daily if you drive with spirit. This is a far more useful upgrade over more power. I believe the M perf are KW no? Do it!

I would suggest taking a hard look at your local roads before committing to an aftermarket suspension. I had Ohlins R/T on my last car and when I put the stock suspension back on before selling it, I realized how great it was for day-to-day driving.
If you drop the coilovers, you're going to limit their travel and end up with a harsher ride. If you track the car it probably makes sense, but i've done lowering springs and coilovers on my previous cars and probably wouldn't do it again for a daily driver that isn't tracked regularly. I'd strongly suggest riding in a friend's car with a similar setup and decide if it's something you want to live with daily. I'd love to see spring rates and specs for the stock suspension. It rides fairly well and isn't too stiff. If you have a decent amount of potholes/big bumps on your commute, I would think carefully about going aftermarket. |

Had m performance coilovers installed 2'000km ago. Driven stock suspension before for 4'500km.
The coilovers beat the stock suspension in every aspect, it's by FAR the best mod to the car i've done. I don't agree that they don't give much on street. Probably depends on the driving style? Ans certainly also on general road consitions. I LOVE EM. Car should come from factory with them.

I put the MPCs on at the beginning of this year. Very happy with them! I have done approx. 40 track days on the OEM suspension prior. While the OEM suspension is great, the MPCs take the M2 to another level.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the MPCs are a factory BMW part and include a warranty. They will also add value to your M2 as where other coil overs will not.
