Looks like US cars already have the option to get rid of that setting. It would be nice to see current gear though.
I really don’t understand the shift indicator. By 40 MPH it wants you in 6th gear. It’s absurd. |

If you habw a DCT you might try SPA_IST_GANG_ENABLE to show current gear. But no go for 6MT for that one

It's a way for manufacturers to improve the "official" mpg results for manual cars.
During tests unless the car "advises" shift points then the shifts must be done at fixed speeds in each gear as defined in the test rules which are the same for all manual cars and therefore unsuitable for many. So to get closer to autobox mpg the car "tells" you to shift early. If you want rated mpg then you need to follow shift indicator at the very least. DCT tells you which gear your in anyway? Well everyone I've ever driven has.
I'm lost with comments about a gear indicator for the 6MT? The gear stick is the indicator!!! It doesn't matter which gear you are in, only that you are in the correct gear at a given time to suit your needs. In a manual just reaching for the stick will tell you what gear you are in immediately. The 6MT gear's are pretty close so I tend to run 1-2-4-6 when just pottering about, or gun it in 3rd then snick into 6th, or slow in 6th then straight to 2nd when the lights change that's the beauty of a manual, you can do what you want... ....but I still want to get rid of the shift indicator, got esys just need a bit of spare time to do it! |

I have the time on my phone, a watch on my wrist, a permanent time display on the i-drive screen - I don't need another one on the kombi display too! |

Absolutely agree. Enough places in our lives where we can (must) see the time. I don‘t need this during driving.
Let‘s get on to it! |

Forgive my ignorance as I thought "kombi" was german slang for a station wagon...
I have bimmercode handy and like a few of the options it provides you to change - Is "kombi" some kind of untapped section of the car's obc which once cracked will increase the number of settings I can change in a newer version of bimmercode? I imagine there are many settings not there now. |

"kombi" = sometimes refers to the multi-function LCD screen in the center and bottom-right of the gauge cluster (or "clocks" if you're from the UK).

Kombi is also Wagon, absolutely correct. Kombi-Instrument is Instrument-Cluster.
