OTA M2 Navigation Updates

My M2 has a Feb 2017 build date and I currently have 21k miles on the odometer. I received two or three updates over the past month. I don't recall receiving any NAV updated prior to the last 30 days. What's the deal with the recent flurry of OTA NAV updates?

Probably just catching up to the current version.

Personally, I think they're pointless because it is only a regional update.

I got a subscription from an independent source that does all of North America

Mine update on Sunday. It was the second or third update since I got my M2. Much nicer than my M235i which never got updated in four years.

Had the same thing happen on my 16 M3 recently, I think 2-3 updates within the last 2 months

+1

Those regional updates are pretty useless IMO. I just buy a full North American map update every year. Cost is ~$70.

My M235i just updated last time I drove it and has done it three or four times before that. Maybe it's dependent on some feature?

OTA? How does that work?

I've updated my 2018-2 nav to 2018-3 and last week to 2018-4, but had to download the stuff to USB stick and also install it through the stick.

Car needs to have the ConnectedDrive equipment installed. In the US, this gives it a cellular modem with 4G/LTE connection to the internet. The updates come down through that.
