what is the easest way to open Car Play?

The only way i can open it is going through the vehicle menu. Is there a way to use the preset buttons or some other quick way to open? thanks carl

Funny you mention this. I was a bit confused today when I tried to set a preset for music through Apple Car Play. It didn't work. Gave a little message like "this isn't possible" in red letters IRC.

Try hitting the media button on the center console. I use CarPlay for music and that button brings it right up.

You can make a shortcut to one of your eight buttons.

Remember the screen is also touch sensitive. When Car Play connected, there is a play button (triangle) in the lower left of the main menu on the screen that will take you there. Or you can scroll all the way left and it'll highlight that button.

Not possible, at least not on my version of iDrive

I don't think you can use a button shortcut for CarPlay. I can't at least on my 2018 LCI. That said it always defaults when I start my car and I have it set up that if I am using other media like satellite radio or ipod that they show up in the split screen with CarPlay the default screen.

It's what I did, and use everyday. You have an M2C too right?

It's just about making the shortcut at the right place. Press „Media" and hover over „playing now in carplay" (or similar) then long press your desired button for the shortcut, voilà

It works exactly the same for tyre pressure, oil level, hp/torque gauges, carplay, DAB, sounds settings and what not all else.

You also should easily be able to. Just see my post one above

I did in fact make a short cut for oil level as well as several other sources just as you described but I cannot get that method to work for CarPlay. I will try again.

The shortcut needs to be made for "Sie hören in Apple CarPlay".

This translates more or less to "You are listening to/in Apple CarPlay".

You can see it working on button 1 in the pic below.

Interesting that everyone says CarPlay is the same in every car - it isn't - getting to it and using it along with the other features of the car is totally car dependent and BMW simply sucks at this. When I rent cars - say a Dodge, CarPlay is instantly detected and turned on when I plug the phone in - plug two phones in? No worries, which one did you want to use Doug?

We can't even get it to turn on in the wife's mini - and I have mine off simply because it shuts down so many of the regular features of the car that works so damn well.

It also doesn't help that Car Play works best on a touch screen and the iDrive screen is just too far away to effectively use as a touch screen.

Just my 2 cents...
