Set CarPlay as default over ConnectedDrive
All,
Whenever I get into the car, it’s a lottery whether CarPlay connects or not. I usually have to go navigate to the ‘Manage Devices’ menu, choose ‘iPhone’ and then select ‘CarPlay’. It’s the same whether it’s bluetooth or USB. The car automatically defaults to ConnectedDrive. Does anyone else have this issue? Can CarPlay be set as the default connection method in any way? Thanks MP |

Do you have the „Start CarPlay" automatically set in your iPhone's carplay settings?

It’s intermittent. Just jumped in the car now and the phone is connected, but no CarPlay. If I go into the iDrive menu, CarPlay is unticked where as BMW iDrive is. Just wondered if there was any way to change it or if it was even an iPhone issue. |

Hm. Had that once as well. Then found out in phone settings idrive instead of carplay was selected. Did set it back to carplay and since then never had an issue anymore

Yes exactly there. Go to phone settings and then select your phone. You can then choose between CarPlay and BMW iDrive.

But does carplay work once you selected it?
I suggest you remove the phone entirely from the car and also kill the remembered bluetooth connection to your car on the phone. Then pair CarPlay again from scratch. |

Full Screen Car Play. Bimmerlink?
This one is going to bug me until I find a solution, but is there a way to get carplay to display across the whole screen instead of 60% of the screen? Is there any hope with bimmerlink?
Trust me I looked through all the awful iDrive menus I also read this forum post that claims it may be updated with the latest iDrive version? Could be BS because there are no pics. Insert M2C: https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1521140 |

No. Impossible. Because CarPlay (Apple) is controlling what is shown on the remote screen. Only way this changes is if Apple decides to change their CarPlay to support variable width screens and then BMW allows you to toggle the split display off.

Well that's a shock to me! I have a colleague that worked on CarPlay at Apple and told me that this wasn't possible. Wonder if this is a hack or an old/new thing or if he was just wrong.

Whibbles can program/code it for you and i've also heard the latest idrive (P...) will bring it out of the box.

Maybe I don't get CarPlay. I've seen it a few times and it looks like extremely limited junk. Android Auto is a little better, but I have used it on a VW and it was slow and buggy as hell.
I'd rather just use the phones on a mount. It's gonna be sad when in 2 years none of this crap works with new phones. The way auto makers other than Tesla handle software... |

Well basically you could walk into your dealer and let him update your headunit and voilà.
Or you program it just yourself to the latest level. Or you contact Whibbles and he does it for you. |
