Hello folks

So far i've seen Michelin tyres on all M2C pictures, no matter what, if official puctures from BMW or also on all user pictures of all early delivered M2C's.

Did BMW really save all the Michelins for the M2C? Is it almost safe to assume all M2C's will be delivered with Michelins?

Never be sure... Still I will swap mine for PS4S... Felt much better on the M2 than the PSS.

Yes i'll do the swap to PS4S too. But if the car comes with PSS i'll just stick to them until they're gone. Different story with Continental. It would rather bother me to immediately have to buy the PS4S just to make a tire fire out of the contis right away after delivery...

Wait, you're not happy with an eight+ year old tire design on a 2019 new car?

I can only assume BMW has a large stock of these things and/or some contract purchase agreement to keep them in production. The PSS is quickly being phased out of course otherwise it appears.

P4S felt better than PSS, and since I am changing wheels anyhow then why not do the rubber as well. I will just sell the set of PSS rubber.

I think it has to do with the type approval of the PSS with the M2(C). The P4S does not have the type approval for the M2C I believe.

Well I hope they’ve improved. The Michelins on the e36 M3 were horrendous. I think they were the Pilot Sport 3s. Absolutely horrible tyre. Best tyre I’ve ever had was the sadly discontinued Pirelli Giallos. Indestructible on the track, no feathering, rock solid, progressive, communicative and just overall wonderful.

Agree 100% on PS4S. I bought a set for my E39 M5 before I recently sold it, and have a set on my E90 M3. Great tires with an amazing combination of grip versus comfort and quiet.

I like PSS, for me it's not having more more more grip/traction, and letting loose like an on /off switch, for me it's the gradual PSS grip/slip transition which I like very very much!

You also see it on various M2C review videos we 've already seen @Ascari:
>35 degrees Celsius (tarmac) temperature and with MDM on the car is easily controllable going sideways, this is not only thanks to the new MDM settings but also because of the PSS.

BMW tries to have multiple tire sources for most mass produced cars. Apparently, rumor has it, a fire in a Michelin factory shut down 7 series production way back when.

So I bet the Conti will reappear...

Its not abnormal for them to come with all Michelins to start and other brands mixed in later.

Pilot Sport 3 didn't exist until 2010. Not sure what came on E36 in 1995.

I'm sure the Pirellis were good in their day but they are 20 year old tires? Can't really tell how old the design is, apparently the original is from 1987. Every single summer tire available now will be light-years better.

Yes first model year of m2 was all PSS tires. Perhaps they want to make sure reviews of the car are all on decent tires.

Yeah, they mix later, and since E46 it's pretty much always Continental as second source.

I went to try and find out what they were. Some early Pilots. God they were bad. Strangely enough I stumbled across this article. Fascinating. Maybe it's why their tyres have improved so much then

I tried to find out also and gave up after a few minutes. It is interesting, the internet was relatively young when the E36 was launched and none of the magazine reviews seem bothered enough to mention the tire make or model.

I don't know about what was delivered with an E36 M3 in Australia, but here in the US they came with Michelin Pilot SX tires which were fantastic. In road tests, the E36 M3 was one of the fastest cars through Motor Trend's slalom test in addition to being one of shortest stopping; generating 0.91g on the skidpad is no slouch of a tire for 20 years ago either. The tire is available from Michelin Classic today.

That’s the one! Rips itself apart on the track, no progression when cornering and don’t even contemplate driving through any sort of standing water if more than a few mm (if you want to live).
