How is the ASD in the M2C?

To all those happy individuals who already took delivery of their M2C...

How is the ASD? How is it on its own, how is it compared to the LCI M2?

Do you like it or do you want to get rid of it?

It's fake engine noise so by default it's bad.

The ASD on the LCI was terrible in sport or sport+. I am sure you will want to get rid of it.

I installed mine on Stefan Martel's lime green M2 LCI yesterday and he was stunned by the difference

Also did my first M Performance exhaust red button bypass. Lovely how easy that was... hahaha

What on earth is with BMW re ASD? Surely theyve heard and read thousands of complaints about its very being.. Are our protests being countered by a like number of owners reveling in the fake sound and commenting about it? I doubt it..

Maybe they implement it to keep up with the competition? I think they all use some form of engine/exhaust enahancement, but few are as brazen as to pipe patently synthetic sounds into the cabin..

I'll never figure this one out, and why BMW feels compelled to do it. I dont know of any motor-heads or car-guys/girls who would rather hear fake noise then the actual sounds of the engine/exhaust. I get that since the advent of wide spread turbo use, engine sounds tend to be muted somewhat. But the N55 , at least, is glorious in its sound as is the stock exhausts we have. They stand well on their own and the sound they make is, well, the sound they make, and far better than the patently absurd noise the ASD provides. Hell.. even the S55 sound is preferable to fake noise!

I discussed it 1000 times and it is like talking to a wall. They don't get, but that is also mainly because you can count the enthusiasts one hand inside that company.

If you talk to a passionate BMW employee (and those are hard to find), one that drives laps on the Ring, does road trips through the Alps and worships E46's, then it is constant over things that are done wrongly. From a carbon roof to ASD and to absence of motorsport heritage and a naming structure that is simply

The response I get is that cars are getting more quiet and to give it more of an experience they push the sound into the car. I was like cool... More reason for me to make my car more loud then and remove all the fake shit.

Does ASD functionality include sound cancellation too, or is it only "enhancement"? Reason I ask is modern DI engines can make some nasty, non-cool noises, especially at idle and was wondering if they feel the need to cover that up?

Does tone or volume of the generated sound change with xhaust mode, or is it always the same crappy soundtrack?

Okee..... :-)

So my very first line, lets read this again... it was: „to all those...."

...not to all others! :-) i want to hear first hand experience and thoughts of those who actually have their m2c in the garage already.

I belive the last M5 had mic's in the engine bay that pumped sound into the cabin. That would be better IMO. But playing a recording is just that much easier...

It's the exact same part # in both the M2 and M2C, so it will be awful in both cases.

I am a firm believer that it's hard to drive a car well if you can't hear what it's doing when you're driving it.

Removing my ASD was a great mod!

I'm not a fan of ASD at all. I was able to play with many different ASD profiles by coding the car. You can make it sound like a M5 if you want.

But thats still fake noise. Actually, if possible, its even faker noise. The only legitimate sound is that which comes naturally from the engine and exhaust in the car.

I blame reviewers. They need to hold BMW's feet to the fire on it. They usually don't bother mentioning it, and if they do they just sort tell people it exists.

It is the way of the future, for ICE cars anyway. Basically every manufacturer has a version of this, whether it is pre-recorded or piped in. Would you rather hear almost no engine noise at all? That's fine if so, but cars are well built and insulated these days.
Engine and exhaust noise can only be so loud and comply with regulations.

BMW, MB, Audi, etc. lose customers over road noise, wind noise, etc. I bet 90% of people would not know ASD existed if they weren't told ahead of time.

Soon there won't be any real noise but a whine with electric motors. Actually, that's one of the things I like most about Teslas. You can really hear the tires work.

I think it includes active noise cancellation in some models, but not sure if it does in the 2 series. I didn't find it that intrusive and I think it did change with mode, but I would defer to someone who has daily experience with it.

I shipped to the Netherlands and then had it shipped onwards. See if you can find someone who can receive it for you and sent it onwards.
