More forum members will have better knowledge than myself, but I believe that BMW is all in with iOS and there has been no word on any support for Android in the near future.

And also, in general, it'll be a while, they're not really making any efforts in compatibility because of the extremely fragmented OS environment. iOS is much easier since you're guaranteed legacy compatibility and such and there's not a million versions of the OS around. |

Yes. It is not happening. If you want apps, you have to convince developers to run them through ConnectedDrive.
Personally, I have used Android Auto on rental and was not impressed. Do you just want to be disappointed like all the owners that paid $300 for poorly integrated Carplay? |

Android Auto
When I ordered my car the dealer talked me out of ordering Apple Car Play. Said the BMW system was way better.
I have an Android phone anyway but then wondered if that is included in that package (Apple Car Play) or is it already turned on. Not trying to start a fight but looking at a review it seems that Android works better in the car than the Apple software. I can likely turn on Car Play with Esys but just wanted to know peoples experience.

Annoying - Bluetooth Audio SMS Interruptions (only sometimes), Android
Does anyone else have issues with the Bluetooth cutting out completely after an SMS comes in?
I'm on a Pixel XL Android 8.0. Connected to Bluetooth in the car yesterday, music is playing fine, but an SMS comes in and all the audio from the phone stops. Phone is still playing the audio but there's no output from the car's speakers. Tried stopping and starting the music, still nothing. I eventually had to disconnect the phone from the car and reconnect to get it back. Anyone else have this annoying problem? It's happened more than once. And it happens intermittently....sometimes an SMS will cut it and sometimes it's fine. BAHHH |

Podcasts and Android
Group,
Forgive me if I missed this in my search. I like to take the occasional break from music and turn on Dinner With Racers or some other podcast. I can’t figure out how to do this from my Android phone. I can play it thru Bluetooth but can only control it from the phone, not iDrive, and I don’t care to give public officials more reason to pull me over. My wife’s VW allows this, so I assume I’m just not doing it right. Maybe thru USB? Is there a podcast app that will make it possible? Stumped. Thanks in advance, Dave |

I'm in the same boat. I listen to quite a few podcasts on my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S5). I use an app called podcast addict and while iDrive will recognize the titles and give me a progress bar as I play, it can't be controlled outside of the phone.
I CAN use the forward\back buttons to the right of the presets on the "radio" to skip forward or rewind 30 seconds @ a time. It might have to do with the directory structure my app uses. It has a directory for each podcast with all the episodes in that folder. I wonder if i can use the previous\next track in iDrive to control that (under audio)? I never really tried. I'm not glued to this particular podccast app, so if anyone has one that truly integrates well with our cars I'd jump ship in a hurry.

Thanks for that reply. I use the same app, so I decided to download and install Stitcher, a more widely used app. I've also tried downloading podcasts directly from the podcast's website to avoid the possible directory problems you mention. Results are the same. In fact, when using Pandora the interface is the same as far as I can tell. I still feel like I'm missing something - my other cars (VW and Ford) both allow review and selection of stations/podcasts on the screen. Can anyone help?

Using 2 Phones (1 Apple + Carplay, 1 Android)
So I'm primarily an android user. However, it would be super nice if I could use Waze on the built-in display on my M2. I realize this is possible with apple carplay. so my question is this:
If I get a cheap iphone and install a SIM in it (I can get a data-only sim from my carrier), connect it to my m2 via carplay, would I still be able to make/receive calls from my android phone that is also connected via bluetooth? Does the "COM" button and voice calling use whatever I have configured as my primary device? Basically the only thing I'd want to use carplay for is the apps. waze, spotify, maybe a couple others. Everything else (mostly phone and SMS) would come through my android phone. Has anyone tried this? |

Android screen mirroring
Hey guys, does the M2 Comp have Android screen mirroring included with the apple car play? Was thinking of using an Android phone to screen mirror and put my bimmerlink exhaust valve switches onto my screen in the car.

I think you are asking the wrong question. The Android screen mirroring IS NOT tied to Apple Car Play. You can enable Android screen mirroring on your car with Bimmercode. Or at least that's how I pulled it off on my old M2.

If you have 6NW you should be able to enable screen mirroring. You will need to code it though.
Tested on my Australian spec M2C. HTC one didn't work but the Samsung S8 with Smart View did.
