Winter wheels for the M2 Competition
Yeah, I'm probably one of the first few with the car and who wants to put winters on it... :-) I didn't think it was going to be this hard!
I went to Tire Rack to see my options, and I see that the least expensive 19” wheel is the O.Z. HYPER GT HLT | 19x9 ET 29 for US $500. Ouch! Today I went to my local wheel shop, and the test fitted a 19" BMW replica wheel on the front. The OEM front wheel is 19 x 9", ET 29. The wheel we tried was 8.5" wide, with 35 offset, and while the clearance of the front brakes from the spokes wasn't a problem (so the higher offset was not an issue), the side of the rim did NOT clear the brakes unfortunately. The OEM wheels seem to have an indent behind the spokes, so they don't rub. So are the above wheels my least expensive option for winters? I think Apex makes SM-10 wheels that might fit too... I gotta check them out but it looks like I might have missed the group buy by a couple of days. Or it's on to 20's I guess! They start at $200 on Tire Rack. . October 2019 Edit: Our winter wheel & tire group buy is now live again on GangUp offering big discounts on complete wheel + tire packages.
Thanks for mentioning us! Our new SM-10 wheels are offered in a 19x9" ET30 fitment, which will be an excellent for the the M2 Competition. We recommend pairing those with 245/35-19 tires all around. Those wheels are currently in production, with expected completion in December. Though the Group Buy is over, but we will likely have a pre-sale discount on our website starting soon. So stay tuned for that if you're interested

If you want BMW OEM wheels and have BBK you have only two choices. 641M in silver or 641M in black. The come with Michelin PA4 in 235/35 all around. I went with silver...

Cheaper OEM route will be 9" 437m all round on either 235/245/255 wide winter rubber on all 4 corners - means you can swap wheels around ( F / R / LHS / RHS etc) to extend tyre life....

I ordered the Apex SM-10 19' wheels and will be installing next week with Michelin Alpin 4 tires. I'll let you know how they fit and will upload pics.

Aside the fact that I don't like the 437M I highly doubt that they are cheaper than the 641M if you order them new at BMW?

If you have bought same width 641m wheels all round then yes easy to swap wheels side to side or corner to corner. BMW std 641m winter wheel package is 8.5" F and 9" R with either 235/235 tyres or 235/255 tyres so that's a no - in terms of rotating tyres by swapping wheels around....

Hey Expert@Apexraceparts,
I just bought my 2019 BMW M2 Competition and it's still sitting at the dealership because it comes with summer tires. I have the 788M with the BBK. I honestly like your SM-10s more than the 788M and have been thinking about making them my summer tires. Here's my question. I have the stock SS Summer tires on the 788M. They are RFT, 245/35 R19 on the front and 265/35 R19 on the back. Does it make any sense to just put winter tires on these rims, buy the 19x9.0 SM-10 for the front, buy the 19x10.0 SM-10 for the back, and transfer those summer tires over to the APEX rims? I would then buy winter tires for the 788Ms? I know that it's always best to buy winter rims that are the same size, so I can rotate more often. Also, not too sure about a 19x10.0 winter rim. I don't really plan on driving my M2 much when it snows anyway. I have a 2013 BMW X5 for that. |

So I have set of M403 wheels (Rim (front): 8 x 19 ET 36 Rim (rear): 8.5 x 19 ET 47) on Bridgestone Blizzak winter tires (Tires (front):225/40 Tires (rear): 255/35) from my previous F30.
Would you guys think those would fit M2C? Did anybody try this size? From reading around forum looks like they should fit fine... |

Update
I didn't get around to posting an update last year, and this is what I did to make it work.
As a recap, here are the stats on the car: STOCK 19 X 9 ET 29 245/35 R19 Michelin Pilot Super Sport (NEW: 10/32”) 19 x 10 ET 40 265/35 R19 Michelin Pilot Super Sport (NEW: 10/32”) 400 mm diameter brake disks front / 380 mm diameter brake disks rear (compared to 380mm/370mm of standard M2) As I said above, for 3 months of the year, I couldn't justify spending even $400 per wheel for the gorgeous Apex wheels, so I kept looking. Locally, I found some 19" wheels at half the price, but as indicated earlier, any 19" wheel may not fit, because of the shape of the barrel, if it's not got an indent around the calipers. WHEELS I GOT The ones they had were 19 X 8.5, ET 35 wheels, but they were either too close for comfort IMO for getting debris stuck between the wheel and the caliper (I've read that happening even on the stock wheels given the super tight clearance b/w the calipers and the wheel), or maybe they even scraped a hair. And I should have expected that. A wheel offset calculator tells you going to those wheels, the outer edge of the wheel will RETRACT by 12mm. I would think you could get away with 10mm spacers on the front, but as I already had a set of 15's, I just put those on the front to be super safe. And then I put 12 mm spacers in rear to make it look nice. If I was going to do it again and did not want to spend $400+ a wheel, I'd try to just go for 19 x 9 wheels with offset of 30 or lower. And I would think that should eliminate the need for spacers. TIRE RUB The tires I went with are 245/35/19 Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4’s (NEW: 10.5/32”). They rub a bit on the plastic fender wall on full lock, because despite being the exact same size as the OEM tires, they have a more square shoulder profile. If you compare the two tires' Tread Widths, you'll see that too: The PA4's is 9.5" whereas the PSS is 8.8". It goes away after a few thousand miles of driving, and has caused no damage on the plastic. Hope that helps! Here's a picture of my car (I overexposed it so the wheels are really visible). . Looking at Superspeed RF05RR. They have a new wheel that fits the M2C. 19x9.5 +25ET. Tires would be 255/35/19 square. I would rather have a narrower tire, but there is more choice in 255/35/19. I can get some Nokian Hakkapelita R3s. Price for the set is 3025 CAD + taxes/shipping etc. The 641M set in Canada with the PA4s is just shy of 5k + taxes...would rather avoid the PA4s. Had them in the past on my 2014 F31 and they where great for cold weather, crap for snow and ice.
Link: https://www.super-speed.ca/post/rf05...-fitment-guide any thoughts?

I didn't want a staggered setup for multiple reasons. I know I'll give up some traction, but it's a PITA to find two widths of tires and wheels, and limits your tire choices too. It's only 4 months of the year for me. And I wouldn't be able to rotate, and being RWD, I'm sure the rears will wear faster than fronts. No way I was going to waste time and $ on taking summer tires off the stock rims and put winters on, twice a year, not to mention, it ends up being more expensive after a few years than just buying a second set of wheels, which you'll be able to sell after for something too. You can get aftermarket wheels as I've said for a few hundred $. Plus, you'll risk getting your nice wheels scratched having tires taken off and mounted twice a year. Quote:
For the wheels, if you've run them thru this calculator and there's no retraction on the OUTSIDE edge, you might be fine in terms of brake caliper to wheel spoke clearance. But as I said above, no guarantee on barrel shape... https://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Whee...et-Calculator# Someone's selling a set it looks like BTW: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1651572 But if you're in the backyard of PMC Tire, why aren't you getting your package from them? They're awesome to work with, have great prices, and guarantee fitment. On the West Coast, we don't get more than 5 days snow a year I'd say in the city. The rest is wet. So for me, handling was more important than deep snow/ice ability. Hence why I got "Performance Winter / Snow" ones and not the regular, softer, "Studless Ice & Snow" which are more capable in snow. |

See my post. 3025 CAD + taxes for wheels and tires. Wheels are made in Asia of course. Also the link shows the wheels mounted on an M2C (though the rear wheels are 19x10)
