N55 intake
So I saw this universal air intake at oreilly the other day...
And you basicly build your own and theres no reson why you couldnt put one on the N55... Would it sound as good as the CAI that the online vendors should be coming out with in the near future... What about the two sensors on the stock airbox? will you get lights on your dash? Is it gonna be a good alternative to the ones the vendors will have? I beleive the air inlet is 3" Thanks for the Help |

do those sensors(whatever they do) have an affect on the engine tuning that could influence things like fuel/air ratio and make it run rich or lean or somthing??? Because i dont see how a plastic 3" pipe that has a cone filter on the end of it doing anything to restrict and/or heat air to "lose about 30 hp" ???? |

I assume that he's basing it off of a post by Terry@BMS on n54tech. He's said it a few times, but here's one: http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8589 |

its the same issue with all MAF cars. Evo's had similar issues but it was quickly solved by just making sure there is enough distance between the filter and the MAF sensor so the air flow is smooth by the time it hits the MAF.

yes thats exactly what im basing it off of. He lost 30 whp just by removing the intake cover.
The intake will need to be tuned and the maf will need to be spaced accordingly. |

didnt know they switched from a MAP to a MAF for the N55
OP, the questions you are asking are fairly basic, if you dont know the answers, then building your own intake might be reaching your limits. wait for the pros to come up w/ one |

Not to mention how oiled intakes effect MAFs over time. They are very sensitive and the oils can sometimes throw off readings and degrade the sensors viability and operation.
