M2 winter setup on M4?

I'm trading in my M2 this week for an M4. Here in NJ we keep getting snow every few days and it looks like that'll be the pattern for the next two weeks. I have a winter set of for the M2 which are BMW Styling 640 M Double-Spoke shod in Michelin Alpin Front: 235/40 R18 95V - up to 240 km/h Rear: 255/35 R18 94V - up to 240 km/h.

Will this set up work on the M4?

Thanks in advance,
Al.

The whhels are a perfect fit, as they are also the M3/4 whhels. However, the tires are on the smallish side as they should be 255/40R18 all around.

OE 18" F80 winter set is 255/40-18 also using 640M wheels. You've got the correct wheels so just get the correct tires.

Too much of a difference in diameter and thus speedo errors etc. with the M2 setup on an M4.

I did it (235/255 640M set up) and it works perfect.

Thanks all. I just need to make sure I can get it home without putting it in the ditch.

should be enough to get you home but I would recommend going up on the front tires. I run blizzak lm-32 255/40 square on oem 513m no problems. this is my third and probably last winter season on this set no problem and I daily my F82

Why go up on the fronts?

Speedometer would be off by nearly 4 mph. Plus, it's just too narrow for the wide front track and lacks grip imo. In fairness though I haven't driven on that narrow of a tire

I run also 18" M 640 onto my F83 here with steel brakes...but the speed limit of 240km/h shouldnt bothering you into the US, aint?

At this point, just get the four correct tires...

Bigger difference between 255/35 & 255/40 than 235/40 & 255/40.

Hey congratulations on the switch to the M4! I did the same switch last year and am very happy.

Thanks! I thought I recognized your name!. Long story short, the wheel/tire set up worked 100% fine.

Well, that is measured off the rears not the fronts - however, and interestingly enough, the rears on the M2 set at 255/35 vs. 255/40 on the M3/M4. So that would be a 4mph diff - which is strange because that should be closer to a 10 true mph diff at 65 (with typical speedometer errors) - but I don't see that when comparing with say GPS speed on Waze.

The fronts however, are not too far off (235/40 vs. 255/40) - except that they are almost .8" skinnier and that's actually a really good thing in snow/ice, cause traction kind of sucks on winters in the dry anyway

Exactly No need to change out the tires. I'm on my 3rd winter with no issues.
