Through this post I'll be discussing camber, but most of these fitments need the additional camber or spacers in the front. Aftermarket coilovers (including M Performance) that reduce inner clearance on MacPherson strut BMWs will have the clearance issue in the front but the divorced shock and spring in the rear typically has plenty of clearance. So we mainly care about the strut clearances around the area of the front suspension where the springs and spring perch reside. The 18x10 ET33, 18x10 ET25 and 18x10.5 ET40 wheels won't have inner clearance issues in the rear of the car, but the 18x10 ET25 will likely require additional negative camber depending on the tire and vehicle's ride height to prevent rubbing on the fenders. Most 275/35-18s can fit with those particular wheels via camber dialed in from the stock eccentric bolts and/or camber gain from lowering the car, but if you are going with a really wide 275 or a wider size, you may need adjustable rear arms. The 18x10.5 ET40 (with 285/35-18 or most 295/35-18s) and 18x10 ET33 (with 275/35-18) should be a direct fit in the rear. 10" wheels: Those will require additional negative camber up front no matter how you slice it whether you are running the 18x10 ET25 wheels or 18x10 ET33s with spacers. The only way I can see of running these wheels without quite a bit of additional negative camber is with narrower streched tires which negates the benefit of running wider wheels up front from a performance standpoint. 9.5" wide wheels: We have 2 options/offsets that make sense for the staggered setup you mentioned: ET28 and ET22. ET 28 is our default M2 fitment for customers with OE suspension or coilovers with inner clearance that is as good as or better than stock. This is the less aggressive option that utilizes the room on the inner edge to let you fit 265/35-18 setups as a direct fit and is more tucked into the front fenders as a result. This offset generally needs a 5mm spacer kit up front to clear the M Performance suspension giving the wheels an effective offset of ET23. The photos above are base ET28, no spacers. I've seen some customer's with the M Performance coilovers get away with no front spacers, but the inner clearance is going to be very tire dependent. 265/35-18 is our baseline recommended size and tire models that run wider will likely require front spacers while models with tire "shoulders" that are narrower may be a spacer free fit. Running the lower offset either via spacers or ET22 offset wheel generally requires additional negative camber, but it doesn't need a huge amount. This car is running the following setup: Wheels: APEX Race Silver SM-10s Front & Rear: 18x9.5 ET22 Tires: Hankook Ventus RS4s Front & Rear 265/35-18 Additional mods: Ohlins Coilovers 2 degree camber in the front 1.6 degree camber in the rear Owner IG: @_shazzy13 Even with the wide RS-4s, this fitment required -2 degrees of camber to prevent rubbing up front which was mainly gained from the lowering of the car rather than dialed in via adjustable plates. With that being said, we don't know if this setup rubs when the car is pushed on track and it is an aggressive fitment. This turned into an extremely long post, but hopefully it illustrates some of the nuances of this fitment. I think that certain narrower tire combinations on our 18x9.5 ET28 wheels may clear the M Performance suspension without spacers/camber, but we don't have notes on which ones do and don't work yet. Most street-driven M2s and nearly all M2s that see the track will benefit from additional negative camber up front beyond the factory fixed setup so even if the camber isn't required for the wheel and tire fitment, I would still recommend it to help you evenly wear tire sets on track and aid turn-in. -Tom

Tom, this was such a fantastic response. Thank you very much for taking the time to explain the various considerations regarding wheel/tire sizing for the fronts. I really appreciate your input. Sounds like the 18x9.5/18x10.5 fitment is a safer bet without having to limit myself on tire width or potentially needing additional front camber. Thanks! |

As a group of track enthusiasts and racers, we understand how frustrating it can be to bend a wheel in pursuit of a PB or podium finish. Whether you find yourself 4 wheels off track on a safari excursion or creating your own driving line jumping treacherous berms, wheels are put through a tremendous amount of stress and abuse in the process – sometimes simply being forged isn’t enough to avoid bends. To mitigate this, our engineers made a concerted effort to reinforce the inner lip of these motorsport wheels and created our stronger, Sprint™ Spec inner lip design. If you haven’t already, we recommend you read our technical writeup on our Sprint™ Spec inner lip.

When Function Meets Form As wheel specialists, we understand that when it comes to reducing weight and increasing stiffness in wheel spokes, there is a big difference between functional and aesthetic side milling. Instead of milling a few negligible millimeters of depth just to look cool, our engineers optimized our new motorsport blanks to create narrower yet significantly deeper spokes with deeper side milling that is nearly 50mm wide on some wheels. The result is a stiffer “I” beam-spoke shape that also showcases a stunning aesthetic. If you haven't already, we recommend you read our technical write-up on our deeper and wider side-milling.

With the release of our new forged Sprint Line wheels, we’ve had a few customers asking about how our upcoming EC-7RS visually compares to the classic forged EC-7R. The overall design is obviously similar as this is our third iteration of the EC-7 design itself. Between the Classic Forged EC-7R and the new Sprint Line EC-7RS, the biggest visual difference will be seen in the spoke depth and side milling. Our new Sprint™ line of wheels features much deeper and wider side milling on the spokes versus our first generation of forged wheels. This improvement was made possible by our new motorsports blanks which allow us to create narrower yet significantly deeper spokes. The larger surface area on the side of each spoke allows us to take more material out. Doing so creates a much stiffer “I” beam or c-channel spoke shape. Visually that means the EC-7RS has deeper but thinner spokes with deeper side channels. The spokes of the EC-7RS also connect to the outer lip of the wheel, unlike our older EC-7R. This further reinforces the outer lip. The inner lip won’t be easily seen when the wheels are mounted but has been updated with a unique C-channel as a result of a full redesign for additional strength in this crucial area. The inner barrel now includes laser etching to make specification identification a breeze and is a completely redesigned profile for even better brake clearance. Porsche-spec etching shown Ultimately, these changes were driven by our goal of improving our product offerings in a meaningful way. Beyond expanding the width and diameter offerings to fitments we’ve never before produced, these fundamental changes have resulted in higher performance wheels with an aesthetic that we are extremely excited about. 5x120 EC-7RS BMW fitments will be incoming with Group Buys of their own in the next few months. Stay tuned!

Get To Know Our 50% Replacement Program Let’s face it: Whether you are a weekend warrior practicing at the track, or a club racer pushing the limit for a podium finish, mistakes happen, and parts can get damaged along the way. We are not really a performance company if we sell wheels in a way that penalizes the pursuit of driving at the limit. For this reason, we stepped up and created a program to significantly reduce the costs of properly maintaining a set of wheels by making replacements extremely affordable. Our goal was to make replacing a damaged wheel with a brand-new one much more appealing than ignoring the problem or performing any questionable and compromising repairs. This program will also help keep damaged wheels from being passed on to unsuspecting enthusiasts via the secondhand market. Discounted replacements are ideal for customers who accidentally damage their wheels with curb rash, bends or dings from potholes, berms, road debris, and off-track excursions. Complete destruction of a wheel from serious accidents also qualify, including tire wall or barrier impacts, contact with other racers, or any accidents resulting in a total loss. All pledged members that participate in this Group Buy would be eligible for this replacement program. For more details, be sure to visit our website here.

What are Motorsport Blanks? Join Yo and Eddy(APEX Founder) to learn how to spot wheels that may have been limited during the engineering phase to offer motorsport rich features and find out why we worked so hard to engineer new motorsport blanks to create our new fully forged Sprint Line wheels. It was a long road to this launch, but now that we're here you all can look forward to benefiting from the features we can offer on the Sprint Line and future lines of forged wheels to come!

VS-5RS Profile Comparison With so many new fitments available in our all new VS-5RS design, we’ve gotten a few requests to showcase the various profiles available. While all of our Sprint™ Line designs have their profile optimized on a per-application basis, we’ve categorized these wheels into 4 Profiles based on their depth for easy identification. Our investment in the Motorsport Blanks mentioned in the post above has allowed us to make Profile 4 wheels for the first time via additional material available to our engineers during the design phase of this project. These are the most concave wheels we’ve ever made and they help round out the Sprint™ Line which stretches from narrower high offset fitments for Porsche and non-M BMW chassis to wider low offset wheels for Domestic and widebody applications. Profile 1: Profile 2: Profile 3: Profile 4: View the full list of inbound fitments and their specifications including Face Profile in the OP of this thread or on our website here: VS-5RS EC-7RS

It may not be an M2, but we thought we’d share some photos and a video of this 1M on our new VS-5RS wheels. With a set of square 18x10 ET25 wheels and suspension architecture and other parts plucked straight from the E9X M3, we can’t imagine a better way to tear up the canyons.
All APEX Sprint Line forged wheels feature unpainted knurled beads. The problem with knurling is that it varies by manufacturer in design and effectiveness. Whether it’s a day at the track or months of street driving, repeated hard braking can make a tire slip on the bead seat and go out of balance, causing vibration. Maintaining the effectiveness of our knurling was at the forefront of our minds when developing our new line of forged wheels, which is why there’s no paint covering the bead area. Instead of adding basic knurling with paint over it just to check that feature box from a marketing perspective, our engineers optimized the functionality of our knurled beads by leaving them unpainted to ensure they have a more effective “tooth” to bite into a tire’s bead. It is a more expensive process, but it is one of many details that results in a better wheel. To learn more, be sure to read our technical write-up below.

With the first shipments of our Sprint™ Line wheels making their way into customers' hands, we’ve seen customer photos rolling in across social media. We love seeing these wheels in the wild and on your cars so keep them coming in!
Ashton (@ashtoncarlisle) sent in these images of his Satin Black 18x10 ET25 VS-5RS wheels wrapped in 275/35-18 NT01s mounted on his E90 M3 track car. 18x10 ET25 was an incredibly popular choice during our initial Group Buy with good reason. These wheels look right at home on this M3 and are a great front wheel option for the F8X M3/4s as well. Though we focus on BMWs for these forum threads, we wanted to feature an APEX employee car as well. Our Market Research Manager Joe McGuigan (@joeMracing) picked up a set of our Mustang VS-5RS wheels in 18x10 ET40 wrapped with 275/35-18 Maxxis RC-1 R2 Tires for his Lexus ISF. The VS-5RS wheels are a great fit for these cars with centering rings and Joe put them to the test around Thunderhill East and West earlier this month. When he's not parting the VTEC seas in Turn 14, Joe drives fitment testing and development for our new products and fitments here at APEX. He’s a massive Toyota fanboy at heart and even 2 additional doors and a bit of extra heft (from the car of course!) hasn’t slowed him down that much. If you’d like to send us photos of your Sprint™ Line wheels, feel free to email them to Experts@apexraceparts.com. If you’d like to participate in a photoshoot or test fitment, submit an application on our new volunteer form. Lastly, we know a ton of you are eagerly waiting for 19” Sprint™Line wheels. We recently received 19” sample wheels and photoshoots are underway to support our upcoming Group Buys. Here is a sneak peek: Keep an eye on these threads and our Social Media channels and website for more information!
