CAE Ultra Shifter
Anyone here installed or considering installing the CAE Ultra Shifter in their M2? Currently have the Autosolutions SSK which is a great improvement over stock shifter. My only gripe is the Arm rest of the M2 being so high, as it interferes with my elbow shifting, and this shifter is much taller. Love the newer design on the M2 CS that does away with dam sliding Arm Rest. My understanding is slight modification of Cup holder is needed (cutting small portion). It looks like a work of art.

Thanks, it according to their site they made an 85% improvement over existing model as far as fitting goes. Looks fairly straitforward though having installed the previous Autosolutions. Look forward to your review.

Yes. I have been waiting the same amount of time. The pandemic has affected both production and shipping times. I paid extra for expedited delivery.

I have the CAE and I bought a f22 armrest and ripped the top off it. Then made my own low profile arm rest.
As far as the CAE install it's easy. You have to cut one support on the underside of the cup holder and then notch the right side cup holder. You also have to relocate the USB charger in the cup holder area. It's pretty easy. Totally doable DIY. In my build thread I posted more information. By far a very sweet mod! |

It is a magnificent piece of engineering! I may not put the shift boot back on!

CAE with the alcantara knob w/blue stitching, BMW DTM steering wheel, & removed the CDV - love this setup. Huge improvements in aesthetics, feel, & most importantly performance.

How is the experience with a DTM style wheel and the CAE? Figured this style of wheel was only prevalent on DCT cars. I was looking at OMP 310 GT.

I do have the OMP 310 GT on my M3 race car - but yes that is a DCT. With a stick I prefer a round wheel vs open top - but an open top could certainly be doable with a stick as well. Most of my shifting with a stick is with the wheels relatively straight so the muscle memory to get the hand back to the wheel will bring it where I need it to anyways so an open top could still be workable. With my manual cars though I tend to play a little more so like having the option to throw the wheel when I need to - definitely much easier with the round wheel vs open top. Dedicated racing though (which for me are DCTs) the open top to be able to view the dash is more beneficial. Plus it looks cool when I'm hard parking in the paddock

I currently have the PSDesigns shifter which is modeled similarly to the RTD shifter. I got it because I wanted to try it out until my CAE arrived. Which I ordered it from EAS on their BF sale. I still am waiting for it. I know they use Hard as they are the official US distributor. I think what they do is batch orders to satisfy a minimum to order from CAE then have it shipped at once. I hate that part of it and I also get why they do it.
I saved a little bit of money going with the EAS BF sale even though CAE confirmed they had it in stock and it was ready to ship. I should have just ordered it from directly but oh well. I can't wait to get the CAE, the PSDesigns one is nice. It's simple and it works. However if you compare the two, you get what you pay for. CAE comes with more, ie the boot and place to cover the hole, it also eliminates the guesswork for how the shifter should sit within the tunnel. |

It is an Awron gauge. Not understanding the question concerning the M wheel and the gauge. They both work well.

Looks great! Did you have to do any adjustments for the shifting pattern, or was it spot on out of the box? My next Mod.

My set screws needed a little adjustment but the centering spring was good to go out of the box.

Thats beautiful drkev! Glad you went with the matching knob. My set up is RTD shifter with mp knob, UCP pedals, pedalhaus and it's an absolute joy to engage each gear. Driving slow or fast it all feels like bolt action shifting and the closest thing to a gated shifter. However significantly less cutting and trimming required for this base, cupholder area intact. This kit does not come with a dust boot but the IRP shifter dust boot lines right up. I also went with the version without reverse lockout because the centering spring is pretty robust and it takes decent effort to go medially and up into reverse.

Were you able to get by leaving the passenger cup holder unscathed?
