Hey guys, wanted to share my brief journey with this car so far... I wasn't sure I wanted to do anything to this car other than wheels and tires, but obviously that's changing. I decided to do a basic tune with flex fuel options. It'll be roughly an
E-50 mix so definitely not full E-85.

Car got baselined this morning in relatively good weather I'd say, but overall the numbers don't surprise me, except the torque! It's stout for stock. I'll post up the parts list and the baseline dyno sheet on a separate post below this one to keep it a. it cleaner. TBC...

Evolution Racewerks catted downpipes, and baseline pull from this morning. Also installing panel filters, and charge pipes. Flex fuel sensor, and custom tune using BM3 coming up.

You are welcome.. I am at the safe limits for stock internals, so won't go any further. The Mosselman turbos are capable of 800+

That's crazy power! I've chased hp in several other platforms in the past... I'm good at where ever this car falls with the simple list of mods mentioned in my initial post. I am surprised to see how much more power your car made than mine, stock though.

10SecGG Nice torque! Certainly some friendly weather yesterday morning (finally!) but that was still a good pull. I ran my baseline last year and it was mid 70s so not awful - but down about 15 lb/ft on the first pull (we ran these back to to back so expected it to fall off).



We went to flex fuel, EU5 injectors, & Wagner tmic from there with Bend Calibration tuning and was an excellent upgrade over stock. The revised throttle mapping from a good tune was huge too. Excellent track manners - so fun to drive. Have an iPE rear section but kept the downpipes stock.

From there went with the Full Race turbo upgrade. Being tracked heavily and still a stock motor we ran conservative power - but still a lovely upgrade. Really a fan of this setup. Catted AA downpipes too (tried non-catted and yeah, not for me).

But... now we are chasing big power Motor and DCT are out and being built. Big turbos are going in along with some other big changes. Shooting for stupid numbers - and then to see how stupid it will be around a track.

Awesome motor - so many options. Look forward to seeing where you go with this car.

Thanks for the post... looks like our cars had similar hp numbers stock. I think these are fairly standard numbers for a stock car, so it'll be interesting to see what the numbers look like after the tune. I'm sure your car is going too be insane!!!

I don't think for the difference in hp the catted options are a bad choice over the non catted versions... I know on my wife's X3MC downpipes hardly do anything on a stock turbo car, so, to me its not worth the hassle of changing them and dealing with state inspection issues either.

Latest update as of 6pm local time... all parts installed, Ecu bench unlocked, heading for dyno. Will update as I learn more.

Ok.... a bit of an update. Just talked to the tuner and the car made 480whp and 550 lbs/ft torque on a stage 2 ots map. He aborted the tuning, and called me to discuss my options. He originally told me he didn't feel comfortable turning the car up without doing a crank hub repair on it.

Soooooo looks like I'm doing a crank hub job on this car THEN he said we could turn it up on ethanol. He offered to keep the car into next week to complete to job as a whole, then revisit a custom tune late next week. I'll update the thread late next week after we get back to tuning. Btw... the downpipes fit like a glove, and zero leaks observed.

I mean this feels like a trap. He should have already known what the car would make roughly on an OTS map, so if he didn't "feel comfortable" tuning it without a crank hub mod then he should have told you upfront. I'm not going to opine one way or another as to if it's necessary, but it feels shady.

Normally I'd agree... But what I SHOULD have said in the beginning was I pressed him to tune it without addressing the crank hub job. He agreed to "tune" the car to his feeling of the ragged edge based on his prior experience on this platform. He discussed extensively the pros and cons of my approach before I ever even took him the car.

Once he baselined the car, he called me to discuss the next move and we decided to proceed with a conservative ethanol flex-fuel tune... today he called me to let me know he'd waive the costs associated with the parts I'd already purchased, and they installed to not risk damage to my car. He said once I did the crank hub job, he'd tune the car, but just didn't feel it was worth the risk without doing the crank hub. I consciously decided to proceed with the costly job so we could get to my end goal, and I too could feel safe beating on the car so to speak without too much fear of epic failure.

I didn't celebrate after we talked, trust me... I was bummed, but at the end of the day, I know he's right. Preventative non horsepower "waste" of money is sometimes necessary to get to where you're going without feeling further pain of failure.
