VIN specs & features of over 100 pre-production BMW M2 Competition cars
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Quote:
That has changed earlier this week: Indeed, the revealed information allows to easily retrieve the VIN specs and features of over 100 BMW M2 Competition test mules (pre-series) with a public BMW VIN decoder. Why easy ? Well, as the VIN sequence follows a logical numeric pattern, simply decrease/increase the last number of the revealed VINs, and the decoder will show the previous/next result (75, 74, 73, etc. and 68, 69, 70, etc.). Below a compiled overview of the retrieved specs and features on the basis of the VIN sheets. Needless to say that the USA-spec data known since a couple of months made it easier to puzzle the overview together this weekend. Status: 118 retrieved cars so far (Jan 28, 2018). Beware: the overview shows all specs and features reported in the retrieved VINs since October 2016 (even if included only once) + keep in mind that these are all still pre-series cars (some features are merely for development purposes and some features may be or may have been superseded at a later development stage). Hence, we may reasonably expect that several of those features won't feature on the final version of the car. Furthermore, several features are of course market-related. And maybe more pre-series cars exist too. But all in all, it may give us already an idea of what can likely be expected later this year (some recent cars are PR campaign cars, as the VINs indicate a "special check"). Anyways, alike all other BMW enthusiasts, and also as M2 owner, I'm also looking forward to this car. I trust that BMW M is gonna live up to the high expectations with this new pocket-rocket iteration. Cars reported to get a special check (update status: March 26, 2018): code 901: Special Check Movie Cars (Sonderkontrolle Filmfahrzeuge):
(HEA = Handler-Erst-Ausstattung = dealer demo cars):

Great list! Interesting to see all the region specific options. Definitely need the 823: Hot Climate Version for AZ Assuming that was just the test mule they built to test in hot conditions?
Doesn't look like anything we don't already know though. There are seat options for Dakota leather orange/Blue stitching perf/no perf and a separate M sport seat option. Does that mean there are going to be a total of 8 potential seat configurations? Or will M sport seats not get colored stitching or perforation? |

Personally it's an odd switch. BMW just seems to have little imagination with their colors. Black and MG are close and they remove MG to add a " silver " that looks closer to white that they already have. *shrug*. To be honest though BMW has a history of this going back to the E30 M3. Over a five year run of the E30 M3 Alpine Weiss changed from I to II ? Henna red (orange ) became cinnabar and then hellRot Lachsilber ( salmon silver) became sterling silver. Diamantschwartz did not change. For a car with only four colors they had variations which you could discern what year in the model run. For the M2 one will know and MG car is the 2016-2018 early run and HS cars in the later years. EDIT: it also occurred to me that the 95-99 E36 M3 also had a lot of colors with multiple names. For once though , bmw had colors from yellow , to copper (Byzanz) , green, both estoril and avus blue , to purple (violet ) and of course black and white. The yellow changed over the run ( Dakar I became Dakar II) , as did the violet ( Daytona and techno ) and iirc the red changed from hellRot to Imola. ? |

I remember early on there was some thought that hockenheim silver would be a limited color, is that still what the insiders are saying?
If I got one, it would definitely be the silver. Also, is this saying the m3 cs 788 wheels are optional / standard? This is much more appealing to me than the standard m2. With the sport seats and all |

That's what makes it all so perplexing. I'm open minded about HS, want to see it first before deciding. If I don't like it BSM it is.

I am sure it will be comparable, but we don't know the specific orange to be utilized yet, right?
That's why I am excited to see it - I hope it's a bright orange and not a burnt one (cough, VO, cough).

What is the color of the stripes in the 2016 -18 M2? It's not LBB ; that's the exterior color, and once again as far as I'm concerned the stripes are blue. |
