Far as I saw, and have seen 100% plug and play 10 min install max. way cleaner look, it opens the car interior so much IMO and the alarm light at night is way brighter & more obvious, that's the red light on the last pic. **note I don't currently have a garage and can't speak to the coding for integrated garage opener. The booklet included did have US frequencies, so I believe it would prob also work with that**.

Well done and great info! The seemingly correct match for function in my car to retrofit was this part number: 51169476753

But if you check out realOEM there is a blizzard of options depending on how your car is setup.

Yes I have attached a PDF from the manufacturer RE: the frequencies and a picture from the booklet that goes over the bands of operations, apologies I may have spoke of term RE: the US frequencies.

Hope this helps all!

That seems to be the one with a frame, not the 'floating' glass version.

Not any used ones of fleebay. Want to try if the old style pivot can be installed to fit into the older Exx models.

Is there also a version with the digital compass? I have a 2006 mirror in my E36 M3 and while useless, it's CAF.

Is it just me or is this mirror even more "frameless" looking? It seems from some pictures online there's less black bezel than the ones mentioned in this thread.
Awesome! Thanks for the P/N!
I guess it has the dimming feature of the original mirror, right?

The frameless mirror (P/N 51162471107) arrived from Schmiedmann last night and I promptly got it installed.

It's a massive improvement over the OEM mirror and despite one large flaw for US users, I still think it's well worth the upgrade. It should be a no-brainer for EU users. It takes up significantly less space and sits closer to the windshield. The FOV is notably improved and the alarm system + auto-dimming functionality are both working. In fact, the flashing red alarm light is quite a bit brighter, which is just one more thing to deter would-be thieves.

As someone else reported, the pin-outs of the plugs are the same, so it's a direct plug-n-play swap. Total install time, start to finish, was ~10 minutes.

HOWEVER, I can confirm that it does NOT work with US Homelink frequencies. Which is a shame because the one that supposedly does (P/N 51169476753), costs $900 at Schmiedmann and Cars245. Apparently, it isn't as minimal of a design either.

While I imagine the Homelink issue will be a deal breaker for many, it's still such an improvement over the OEM one that I'm keeping it installed. It's worth the sacrifice to me. Especially considering the homelink buttons on my OEM mirror only worked 50% of the time, anyway.

I'm using this as motivation to finally get MyQ setup in the garage so I can use Siri to open/close the garage when I come and go.

Fwiw, I got the 51169476753 one in as-new condition on FleaBay for about $175-- slightly cheaper than $900.

Still haven't gotten around to installing it though. It's in my "It's too damn cold out right now to work on the car so I'm waiting until spring" pile of parts.

It's a pretty big pile.

Well crap…

After seeing your post I decided to take a quick look at FleaBay and happened to see 2x P/N 51169476753 available. One for $400 and another for $165. I couldn't help myself and snagged the one for $165. I figure, if that one solves the Homelink issue, it'll save me from spending even more than that to get my 3 garage bays setup to work with Apple HomeKit.

That will also mean $230 down the drain on the EU one, but I'll just chalk it up to being for science.

What the hell us up with the obscene price for the proper US part number? I have what is essentially the identical mirror in my Golf R (probably even same OEM mfr) and paid about $240 for it - new - 2 years ago. Crazy.

I fitted the 51162471107 to my M2C recently too, and also found that the homelink wouldn't work. (Australia seems to use the US ~300MHz frequencies or at least my garage doors do)
Still, we didn't get the alarm or homelink in BMWs at all here, so homelink would have been a bonus addition for me.

While researching mirror upgrades for my F25 X3 daily beater to try and add homelink to that, but do something more interesting than just buy a US F25 mirror, I found some more threads like this one:
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1629726&page=2

Which seems to show that the 51162471107 is an OEM parts-bin-special, made up of X5/X6/X7/iX/7/8 late model (seems to be 2020+) G series glass and body, G series circuit board with Euro homelink, but with F series bracket and 10 pin connector.

I'm 90% sure that you can get a frameless mirror physically exactly like the 51162471107 but with US homelink by buying a frameless late model G series one, but then have to swap over the bracket/mount and de-pin/re-pin the connector like the OP of this thread did.
Problem is, the few used ones on eBay are more expensive than the new OEM retrofit F series frameless one.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/275076370387
The other option is to buy a regular G series mirror (e.g. G20/G30/G01 etc, can be cracked/damaged) and swap the circuit board like the guy in the linked thread did.
I've opened framed/bezel mirrors, but I'd be afraid to crack the glass on this one.
Never easy huh.

Yeah, $850+ for a mirror is bonkers. Yesteday, there was another 51169476753 on ebay listed for $400. But I just went to snag the URL to post here and see that it's now gone. Just keep your eye out, I suppose. You might even be able to set notifications for when the part number pops up, if memory serves.

I had a similar thought. I'm planning on making this a new side project.

Once the US spec (P/N 51169476753) mirror arrives, assuming it's in great condition and not cracked/scratched up, I'll get it re-pinned and installed,

If that goes to plan, I'll have two spares. P/N 51162471107 and my OEM mirror. The OEM mirror will become the donor part and I'll see if I can successfully swap the circuit board and wiring over to the Euro spec one, without breaking it.

And if ALL that goes to plan, I'll have a properly pinned US Homelink spec frameless mirror that I can sell to someone here, without the absurd markup.

I'll keep you guys posted and take pics along the way.

Good plan.
Will be interesting if the OEM mirror circuit board will swap or not, being a different shape body.

I've decided to take on the same objective from a different direction, and have just bought a used frameless mirror out of a US M8 or M850i. (I think, lol)
Cost about US$290 all up with shipping and taxes, more than the US$245 I paid for the new OEM retrofit 51162471107 from Schmiedmann, so a bit of a gamble for a mirror that may end up not being able to be made to fit and work.
But will report back with findings in a few weeks either way.

I can't say whether or not the circuit board from the OEM mirror works in the frameless 51162471107 mirror. However, as you suspected, I can say that the circuit boards are 100% interchangeable between 51169476753 and 51162471107.

I swapped them and now I have a completely frameless mirror (51162471107) with functional US Homelink buttons. Assuming you have both mirrors, the process is pretty simple...

The wiring harness, circuit board and Homelink buttons are all attached to the mirror face. So first, you have to de-pin the wires of each mirror as outlined in the OP of this thread. Then use a plastic trim removal tool to separate the mirror faces from their housings. I found that I had to press the Homelink buttons in (like you normally would, in the car) so they can tuck underneath the rear housing, allowing for full separation of the mirror face and rear housing.

51162471107 (top) vs 51169476753 (bottom) *please excuse the finger smudges*

51162471107 (top) vs 51169476753 (bottom)

Once the circuit boards are exposed, use small needle nose pliers to separate the blue and white wire connections from the circuit boards. I circled the two connections in light blue, below. Once those connections are removed, the circuit boards + homelink buttons pop right out in one piece.

Now just swap the boards, reverse the steps to get it back together and you're done! I can confirm that my Homelink buttons work perfectly, without needing to be reprogrammed in the new mirror. Which makes sense, since the entire brain (circuit board) was swapped over.

In case anyone's interested in a comparison:
(from left to right) 51162471107 vs OEM vs 51169476753

All done.

As promised, here is what I found with the X6/X7/8 frameless mirror bought used from the US.
Part number I received is 51169476754, which is also the mirror used in the G8x M3/M4 it turns out.

As predicted, it is the exact same body and same Gentex part number as the OEM F series retrofit 51162471107, but with a different bracket/mount and connector.
I chose to rob the bracket and connector from the stock mirror, so that I could sell the as-new OEM F series retrofit one.
Since I had also installed a US G20 mirror in my F25 last week which required the same bracket and connector swap, I can confirm that the X6/X7/8/G8x bracket is exactly the same as G20, so these G series frameless mirrors should be plug and play in G20/G30/G01 etc. series as long as the sensors and options are compatible.

TL;DR: This is a viable alternate method to the great work done by DadVibes, to achieve the same outcome. i.e. working US frequency homelink in a frameless mirror for F87.

More up-to-date applicability than RealOEM which only goes to 12/2019:

This is so great! I just snagged a mirror that was misidentified in its ebay listing as an F-series mirror but appeared in photos to match the fully frameless mirror shown earlier in the thread. Wasn’t sure if the listing or photos were wrong, but for $99 shipped it was worth the risk - even if it turned out to be the euro mirror with non-US-functional Homelink. Just received it and I think I lucked out with the 51169476754 part number! Looking forward to doing the swap this weekend, hopefully retaining full Homelink function!

Thanks to everyone who did the exploratory work on this mod!

Ok-- since I'm old, busy and am starting to lose control.....

Mirror #51169476753 (mine says 905-5797-000 F00PGG8J 13/03/19 94 9476753-01 on the tag)-- I'm assuming that's the correct one for the US homelink. I've got the mirror, but have had absolutely NO time to do this (especially since it's been cold and/or snowy here on the ten days a month I'm actually home).

Query: I'm going to get a Radenso DS1, but I probably need to know WHICH BMW model this mirror's from (hopefully, US-Spec) so I can get the right detector mount for the mirror.

A little help?

TIA--

R.

(Who got home late last night, and is on the road again today).
