Turbo blanket DIY - reducing engine bay and intake temps
I am really excited to share my latest DIY, considering how impactful this change can be, plus how different as well! There are very few videos out there like this, especially for the BMW S55 motor in the M2C, M3 and M4s!
Funk Motorsport makes an amazing product, and I am really happy to get their incredible turbo blankets on my M2C! You may be asking.. turbo blanket? What? Turbos are strange things.. hot as possible on one side, as cold (as you can get) on the other and engine performance directly effected by both. Also, especially with the S55, the turbos sit directly next to or under the fresh air intake and both charge pipes! Super high heat, all radiating onto everything you want as cold as possible. The turbo blanket wraps both the tops of the exhaust intakes and around the hot side of the turbo itself. This will lower engine bay temps, reduce radiant heat onto your intakes and charge pipes and help exhaust gasses stay hot. The whole goal is to keep heat where it is supposed to be, and not where you don't want it, and these will make a huge difference! Check it out, and much more to come!

Any concerns with heat soak? I imagine the heat could build up during hot desert race days. I honestly don't know much here, so if I am wrong definitely let me know.

Ok, awesome, thank you for your reply . It's a legitimate concern for me because things get less objective when that happens.

Totally get that.. this is a DIY for sure on how to do the install. I tried to find objective info on if these make a difference since I don't have the tools to test results.

I changed several variables at the same time so couldn't get purely clean delta numbers. That said I saw exhaust temps up noticeably (good) and IATs down about 5 degrees if I remember.

Honestly the best way to reduce temps imo is to get a CS hood with the vent to release engine bay temps
