New member - From 2011 6MT E90 M3 to 2018 6MT M2
Hello everybody! My name is Shaun and I am coming from a 2011 6mt e90 m3 to a 2018 6mt AW m2. I am very excited to be here on the m2 forum. The car has a factory MPE, exhaust tips, cf mirror caps, cf front and rear diffuser as well as a cf spoiler. The wheels are black, as is the front grill and it looks great. As soon as I resize pics, I will post them. I am very much looking forward to getting acquainted with you all!
First impressions: Fast, feels like a turbo car, does not feel like an NA engine whatsoever. I love the auto rev match feature and the torque. That's what the e90 m3 was lacking. The power delivery is difficult to predict as of yet but this will change over time. Its light and TERRIBLE in the rain in any mode. I love how tossable it is as well as the huge amount of grip and powerful brakes for street use. Probably would need an upgrade for track use, but I'm not planning on tracking it. The only negative that comes to mind is that damn drone at 3000 rpm in any gear with the MPE. Thus far I am thoroughly enjoying my ownership and I have about 3000 miles on the clock. Cheerz! |

Congrats on the new ride and welcome aboard! I have a question you or others can answer, in the 6-speed, what MPH are you hitting at 3000rpm in 6th gear?
I have a DCT and I'm pretty sure 7th gear is like 100MPH+ at 3000rpm. I know in both 6th and 7th gear, I'm well below 3000rpm at 80MPH. |

Thank you guys, I'm quite thankful to be privileged enough to be here in M2 land. Anthony1s I am at ~ 80 mph at 3000 rpm in 6th gear. The shifter is very nice, a little springy but it feels good and is satisfying to shift. I have had a few MT cars and the 6spd in the 2018 m2 is excellent.

Welcome to the club. Get rid of ASD by either coding it out or installing the bypass harness. It dramatically improves the sound.

Fit a set of brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires on your new ride and let's talk again.

Interesting. I wonder if the DCT would have a higher top speed than the manual, as the manual would run out of gearing. Seems like it. Was doing some math...
6th gear on the manual is 0.85 which translates to 3006rpm at 80mph 6th gear on the dct is 0.84, which translates to 2970rpm at 80mph 7th gear on the dct is 0.67, which translates to 2369rpm at 80mph EDIT: Well I did some more math to answer my question. 6th gear on the manual at 6801rpm is 181mph 7th gear on the dct at 6812rpm is 230mph |

Oh ok, duly noted. I have Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 on the rear tires and Michelin Pilot Super Sport in the front. This is how the car came from BMW. Handles super awesome otherwise. I love how it's a little rocket. It makes my old e90 m3 feel sort of slow and lumbering (in comparison).

Makes sense, the DCT having an extra gear and all that. I think the car is limited by drag/power to 186 mph? So I guess that would be top speed for DCT and 181 top speed for manual? It's cool with me, I'm electronically limited to 155 |

In the wet the PS4S tires outperform the PSS. Michelin worked on improving the tire behavior in the wet. Needless to say that PS Cup 2 are treacherous in the wet.

Well, when these tired wear down, PS cup4 will go on the car. Currently I have an AWD dd for rainy day commute so it's ok for now.

Do you miss the NA motor at all? How does the e90 power delivery and torque band compare? I was considering e9x M before getting this. Enjoy and welcome to the club

The m2 is very fun to drive. The 6mt is nice and crisp, and minus the cdv, it is a very pleasing car to shift. Acceleration is good, I love having a wall of torque behind me at all times. The m3 had a decent power band..3800 rpm to 8000rpm, and above 6000 rpm it was just bonkers sounding and fast. It did not have alot of torque, but I didn't really notice above 5k rpm. I loved that car and I miss it but the m2 is a good replacement. The m2 does have a good powerband, it's just that the car loses revs so very quickly during shifts due to that damn cdv and turbo lag. Other than that, it drives very very well and I love it. |
