This was my first manual car and I understand that most users on this forum have driven manuals for years. Although it's considered an "easy manual", now that I've grown very comfortable with it, I could not imagine going with the DCT. Sure it's faster from a standstill (for me anyway) and the shifts are faster, but the pure enjoyment of being connected with the car and rowing through the gears really makes me appreciate why people love driving manuals and I could not be happier.
The auto rev feature with the clutch makes the rush hour traffic on I35 negligible. It's actually kind of fun for me / good practice to get off smoothly. Get the manual!

My last car was DCT and i never used the paddles, felt boring to me, always used the shift lever to change gears. Probably the reason why i got manual LOL. |

Overall however, I think a lot of people who purchased a 2016 M2 got what their dealer ordered, which more than likely was LBB or AW and DCT. |

It is funny that most would consider Europeans and in particular Germans to be enthusiastic drivers but they don't go for manuals nearly as much as Americans. The M5 was only offered in manual because of the US market, it ended up losing its manual because of lack of demand here. I like choices so I am glad they offer the manual even though I am a DCT guy through and through.

Go with the manual. The clutch is quite light and the throw is not too short so it's very easy to use. You get rev matching as well for relaxed spirited driving and can still go all in if you have to.

That wasn't the case with my previous ///M cars: whenever I shifted during cruising, cruise control deactivated (but still on standby). I was required to push the 'resume' button in order to resume the cruise control speed.

I'm an "old fart" who grew up driving MT from the 2002/320i/325is days. I went for DCT on my M2 and have absolutely no regrets.
As DD in city driving, DCT is convenient and fast. Having driven M2/M3/M4 DCT at Thermal, you can't beat the quick up-shifts and down-shifts during heavy braking and into turns. With DCT, I enjoy blasting through the gears in Sports+ and hearing the tires chirp from first/second, second/third when space permits. The one weakness with 6MT is that I find 1st gear too short the shift between first/second a little notchy. That has been typical of all MT BMW's I've owned. So there's no right or wrong choosing MT or DCT. Just go with your gut feeling. |

Went DCT this time, my last two were MT. I miss my MT but I definitely don't miss it during traffic everyday home from work. It's a very tough choice that you really have to just go with your gut on. I went DCT for two reasons- traffic, wife likes driving it once in a while.
To be honest the DCT is one of the best transmissions I've ever driven and I don't ever regret it during daily life. It's times like this when reading about it once in a while that I say damn I miss it then I get in and rip through the gears and that thought just disappears. So it's really never a right or wrong choice. At the end of the day I think it's good to experience both. Whatever you choose good luck and enjoy! |

If you have to ask, buy the DCT.
Buying a manual is generally a criteria from the outset.

I went with manual, because I lose interest so quickly when a car is DCT (Unless we're talking about a Ferrari or other supercar).

I bought the manual. After a test drive the DCT didn't impress me.

Exactly. Nobody in Europe gets a Hero Complex from driving a manual, because everyone does it. Nobody brags about driving a manual, because everyone's Grandma can, and probably does, drive a manual.

If manual was a $2.9k option over DCT, how many "enthusiasts" would actually option the manual? DCT is an upcharge and the majority still opt for it...I'm sure some true manual fans would pay the premium but it would weed out the true manual fans to the rationalizer's. Money talks, just saying.

Here here! I'm sick of changing gear with 2 parts of my body, I prefer the up to date and much faster paddle shift.. Any gear any time

Sure, it's probably fun but for me it doesn't FEEL right in a car that's all about the joy of driving. For me. I won't track my M2. It's just about having fun without breaking too many speed limits. Which I did with the DCT because that's where fun starts with that... |

I went DCT. I will never go back to a manual in the modern car unless the manual is quicker. I am past the "manual feels better" topic.
