Good morning all! Some just news and some bad news.

There was some back and forth either here or elsewhere on ED cars being built ahead of US delivery cars. It seems BMW has to have all cars for Europe built before September 1 according to this really cool post on the new CS:

European cars are build first so that they have a CoC before end of August since the S55 engine is not compliant anymore from September onwards.

The bad news. The stupid little wheel arch guard things shown in the online configurator are apparently on all cars produced from March of this year onwards. That news is also in the above thread, as well as here:

Apparently, they are a one-screw removal.

If that is all for bad news, I will gladly take that!

Inferring from your comment about prioritizing builds. I assume ED cars bound for the US may still not be prioritized right away? I think we speculated how BMW may produce these cars closer to one's ED date? As BMW probably would not want cars sitting idle on their lots for months on end prior to delivery.

So again inferring, the priority builds are as follows (from a US and European lens only):
1. European spec builds
2. US bound customer sold cars
3. ED for US bound cars (dependent on exact ED dates)
4. US bound dealer inventory cars

Normally, I'd say you're right...but the whole emissions thing may pull all ED cars up to 08/31 production date at the latest. My last ED was on October 10 and the car has a build date about 2 weeks prior. I don't think they'd complete a 09/26 delivery on the 11th or 12th of September this year, because they may not be allowed to register it, even if only for a month on a tourist plate. That's why I speculated the pull-forward.

Ah I hear you. I thought when you said all European cars must be built by September that even US cars doing ED will be the exception to this rule. Thanks for the explanation.

Also quick question, I noticed on MyBMW site, the M2C I have ordered bound for the US has M sport brakes with blue calipers. I thought all US M2Cs come standard with M sport brakes with silver calipers? Are you seeing the same thing?

An update on locations from Daniel at the Welt. Direct quote from his email is below. To start, he basically confirmed my question as to whether my car will be the last ever...it will!

Other answers were a little surprising...no on Gibraltar but yes on North Africa. I've got a follow-up into him to ask about the insurance purchase for Gibraltar and on whether ferries are allowed. I could see Mallorca and Ceuta being allowed, but ferries not being. Meaning yes, you can go there, but you can't get there.

Anyway here is the direct quote:

thank you for your inquiry! We'll be happy to welcome you in the BMW Welt. You're right, this will probably and unfortunately be the last European Delivery.

You're probably aware that travel restrictions and - in general - the situation around SarS-CoV-2 is quite volatile. Therefore there is really no specific information that we still expect to be valid by the end of September.

Updated information about travel restrictions/warnings can be found here: https://travel.state.gov/content/tra...ion-Pages.html

Andorra has an agreement with the EU, so insurance and license plates for export are valid there.

Gibraltar is not covered by the insurance. Additional insurance coverage can be eventually purchased at the border.

Cueta as Mallorca are Spanish territory, so the same rules and regulations as in mainland Spain should apply. At least I haven't found any other information.

Nevertheless I'd recommend for you to be as flexible as possible.

Wow it just makes your M2C that much more special! Hopefully you get some sort of plague or memento for this!

Hahaha darn autocorrect! *plaque* 😂😂😉

Please don't get the plague, that would be unfortunate and put a damper on your trip...

Haha, I know right! The excitement and stress of whether or not we'll be allowed to go and where we'll be allowed makes this whole thing all the more worthwhile...provided it works out!

Looked like in the 2020 ordering guide it just said M Sport brakes but did not show a color. On my standard list it shows M Sport Brakes with blue calipers. I'm hoping they are blue on my black car!

I'm not seeing on-lot 2020 models with blue brakes. Remember, the silver brakes utilize entirely different calipers, at least up front. So, I'd assume that means they are all made and painted in one process, and likely all silver...but who knows!

I looked at the '21 M2C ordering guide again and it indeed says "2NH - M sport brakes with gray calipers". So probably an error...

A further update from Daniel at the Welt:

"it took a while to answer, because I wanted to double check with the insurance specialist. He let me know that you won’t need extra insurance for Gibraltar.

Transit on ferries is covered by the insurance as well. But please be aware that trips into Marocco aren’t covered."

So, we can take the car to North Africa!

Looks certain US will not be on the July 1 list of countries whose citizens can enter EU.
Apparently, the requirement is to be at or below EU-average of new cases over last 14 days per 100k citizens. The magic number is 16 at the moment, while US sits at 107.

Hopefully, the situation here will improve sufficiently by July 15, so that once EU decides to further relax the restrictions, we will be allowed in.

Yea, I was just about to post that. Apparently, they will update the list every 2 weeks. Could be very dicey and touch and go. For me, it's ED or bust, as I'll likely walk if I can't do the trip and focus on a Porsche ED next year. Really hope it doesn't come to that, because I'm getting really into planning this trip. It's something to look forward to and right now that is needed!
