Glovebox rattle

Hey all!

So my glovebox has a rattle/buzz when driving on bad pavement. I really don't want to take it to the dealer because I had a falling out with them the last time my car was there. The next nearest dealer is too far away, and I don't feel like leaving them the car.

There has to be a way to tighten up the glovebox, but I've searched everywhere and haven't found any videos that help.

Any help is appreciated!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to shoot a video that shows how to access the source of the rattle shown on the video below and how to reassemble so I can have the confidence to tackle

In fact, if ANYONE can share some guidance on how to capture and kill the sticker shown in the video above I’ll gladly negotiate an acceptable bounty to exchange for your effort.

I forgot to say that it goes away when it is warm out. I'll try and get video of it.

Mine comes and goes as well. Please let us know if you’re successful in locating this bastard label.

These cars throw sound like nothing I've ever experienced, so first off is to take some time riding as passenger to really be sure where the squeak is actually coming from (glovebox, center console, seatback, rear seat trim, etc.). Doubtful it is that label, unless it is a wierd scritchy noise like in the vid - more likely you have a squeaky plastic noise. They sell some kind of friction tape (anti-friction?) that the dealers use for this, and when you lock down where it is rubbing you can try that.

I had this rattle in my car and even took it to a couple of dealers who couldn't replicate the sound of course. It was coming from either the glove box or the passenger airbag. Never got it taken care of before selling. What you could try doing is opening the glove box and driving to see if it's the hinges that are making the noise and add some silicone to them. This worked on my wife's GTI when the back seats were up, it would make rattle but when the seats were down, it wouldn't. Some silicone on the hinge and the noise went away.

Quick update. The rattle went away on its own.

You know what, over many years this has worked for me. Don't get to hung up on noises and before you know it they'll disappear on their own....

I have a cold-mornings-only rattle/click sound coming from the glovebox or passenger side HVAC vent area. It’s way over on the other side of the car, so I can’t pinpoint it while I’m driving.

I bought some thin felt tape a month ago to quiet the noise, once I find the source. I haven’t yet had the opportunity to have a passenger on a cold morning to help me locate the source, though. Maybe I’ll have the luck of it disappearing on me, too.

Then I’ll be left with a bunch of felt tape.

I had a similar experience. I had a passenger track it down. The rattle was coming from the panel under the glovebox used to access the cabin air filter. It’s a piece that’s removed often for service so it may not always be put back correctly. Also going to get some felt tape in case reseating doesn’t fix it.
