It is weird that they don't have a MT. The DCT for it is made by Tremec who make nothing but MT. And before anyone comments on the DCT not being a MT, it's an automated MT.
P.S. Looking like the G8x might not get a MT after all. |

Yes, it's automated. But, that's where the similarities end. Typical references to AT are slush boxes, a DCT as most know is not a slush box. It's internals are a MT with two clutches that's been automated.
Again, not disputing that it's automated. Just differentiating it from a slush box. I agree, they both do the shifting for you. This is why Tremec makes a DCT, because the internals are from a MT. Tremec does not make any slush boxes AT. |

I am giving this C8 some serious thought. My last Corvette was a 2014 C7 Z51 then I transitioned from the C7 to a 2015 M3 then onto a 2018 M5 F90 in August of 2018. The wife and I were thinking about getting her a M2, Cayman S/GTS and now the C8. We took the Cayman S/GTS out of the equation because of the exhaust sound. My wife stated it sounded like a 70's VW Bug and she did not care how the car handled or drove. I know how she feels since the exhaust sound was the driving factor for me getting rid of the F80 M3 for the F90 M5. Truth be told I picked the F90 over a new 911 S / GTS. I thought I would transition from the M3 into a 911 but the M5 won me over.
I had a chance to see and sit in the new C8 this past Monday at Bob Stall Chevrolet in SoCal. The dealership is selling the C8 at MSRP and taking deposits. After seeing the car in person we are seriously thinking about buying the C8. I respect other peoples views but to say the Corvette is a boy racer vehicle in my opinion is way off base. I am 53 and one of the youngest people at the dealership looking at the C8 this past Monday, look at the people in the background. I have owned a good many Corvettes with the first being a 1991 C4 Corvette that I purchased when I was 25 (1991). I was running the 1/4 mile at Maryland International Raceway and was running consistent 13.7's for the 1/4 mile and took the trophy for the evening. My favorite was the 2012 C6 Z06/Z07 parked in my driveway, I should have kept that vehicle. If my wife does not want the new C8, I will more then likely sell the M5 (F90) and transition back to the Corvette family. I have to agree that the service department at some Chevrolet dealerships is not always great. Last edited by Egrunt; 07-24-2019 at 08:56 PM.. |

Its not all that cheap.. After a couple of upgrades and options, nobody's getting out of the showroom for under $70k-$75k, and if you wait for the Z06, youll be north of $100k. Youll dominate the Gring and that price its still a bargain, but it aint cheap.

other boards still love to characterize vette owners as mullet heads EDIT: more to add.. all this being said, I'm overall pretty hyped on the new vette. I think it looks great overall (except the rear and some of the interior elements), and if it performs the way it's being positioned, it would be a great addition to the stable once the kinks are worked out. Thinking I'd go gray on red z51 with the big wing, dark wheels GT2 seats, PDR, nose lift.

Hardly a rival. The C8 is better in EVERY single way. I kick myself for getting the M2 with this coming out.

though I did have this happen.. Dropped off my 97 Camaro SS for a recall, and got a call from the dealer... "Your camaro won't start" WTF. battery dead? They couldn't tell me.. I go down there, get in, starts right up. I ask them what the deal was. It dawns on them that their car jockey who moves cars around didn't realize it was a stick so he didn't push the clutch in... Next story.. buy a new x5 and order the MPPK tune for it. Took almost two weeks for them to figure it out, they screwed up and transposed O/0 in the VIN entry and basically had to get Germany to help them recover the ECU. good help hard to find..

The C8 transmission is a ZF transmission. The new GT500 is getting a 7spd Tremec DCT.

it's also a fine looking car and a bit less conspicuous than a vette. ideally, an M2C, an x5/7 for family hauling, a pickup for stuff hauling and a vette for weekend work would be an ideal 4 car garage

Have you ever owned a Vette?? If you can’t tell the quality difference between a German car and Chevy you NEED to trade in your BMW on the new Vette. The more performance cars you get under your belt, the better the M2C will look. The new Vette can’t be hyped anymore than what it is and curiously some people are taking in all this hype as the gospel truth of what the car actually is as if they have never seen a advertisement campaign. The last 3 “new” Corvettes claimed the same thing yet here we are again somehow believing this one is going to be different. The new Vette will be a dime a dozen soon enough so buying one won’t be hard to do. Chevy is working over time advertising everywhere to change the image of the “look at me” old man demographic on his way to the Country Club. Oddly enough they still thought it was a good idea to show 2 sets of golf clubs in the trunk at the release party? Last edited by MystroX5; 07-25-2019 at 09:25 AM.. |

I think the c8 is going to bring in a new demographic of buyers past the traditional image of the corvette. i think its a home run for GM. The aftermarket will fix the tail lights. i think the supra will need to offer a manual at least to compete against the c8.

Yes, I regret it over the C8. The quality of a C6 was pretty poor.. C7 was far better.. C8 is going to be on par.. Let's not kid ourselves, the M2C is the entry level M series car.. the interior is nothing even remotely special (worse than new premium Mustangs/2ss Camaros/Chargers).. You're fanboying HARD. Anyone who thinks the M2 > C8 is just kidding themselves. We're talking better motor, better transmission, better aero, lighter, mid engine... More space is the only counterpoint..but the M2 is a coupe.. we're talking 2 seats in the back that show the difference. Put your fanboying to the side and look at these cars. I like both, obviously, but Chevy wins this battle. Also many people find the M2 to be "ugly af", so that really means nothing.

Agree. To me it’s like saying I am pissed off I bought the delmonico steak when I should have bought a bigger hamburger. If you want a quality performance two seater then the new Cayman GT4 is your car. If you need more room to get the same job done then the M2C is THE M car.

Coming from 30 years of Porsche my fanboy glasses of what the M2C is very different than yours. Your mad about your M2C experience so getting the Vette is your next move. Dump the BMW and get what makes you happy. Life is too short to not love what your driving. |
