Yea, I'm considering doing everything except the carbon brace as well. It's too expensive for me for now. Also gonna do the Meister-K rear brace. Mainly to stop my laundry basket from flying forward cause I have my rear seats removed lol.

Ebay.co.uk has several instances ATM of the major parts for less than £500. In a market the size of the US, I would like to hope that more of same are available.

I was the opposite I never knew the top one existed or if I needed it. The bottom goes at the stock mounting points in the trunk. Where the net would connect.

Ebay is your friend if you want the lot for not a lot. I think I paid around 1/3rd for the retail price.
The aluminium needed a bit of a scrub, but the carbon was perfect. |

I'm trying to piece together a complete parts list for this. Having a little trouble confirming 100% what is needed to swap this over to an OEM state. Would someone mind taking a look at this list? My guess is I'm duplicating some hardware that's already on the car. Also, Tischer is stating 31106859809 is no longer available.

If using re-inforcement plates then longer 10 off M8 bolts required, part no 31307855400 If not using re-inforcement plates then you either re-use 10 off M8 bolts or buy new, part # 31306869931 Most bolts/nuts fasteners are single use so you may want to ensure you have extra section for part no for them ie M14 strut top nut part no 34339806226

Please can anyone help, what bolts do I have here and what more in terms of bolts/fixings do I need for the retrofit?
Also what has snapped off from the alu brace, the black bit? It seems to be metal |

Okay, you'll probably need to consider replacing most of the bolts with new, as many of them are very definitely single use. The two big bolts at the bottom of the first picture for example - they fit in the two holes in the centre of the aluminium brace up against the windscreen.
The black bit on the aluminium is the remains of the cover that goes over the top - just pull the centre pin out of the plastic fitting and the whole lot will lift away. Realoem will help identify the rest: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_9769 https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=31_1124 Last edited by M Fifty; 07-27-2019 at 08:38 AM.. |

Thanks M Fifty.
From reading around I thought single use bolts were used in critical parts that are highly loaded like a cylinder head. Not a brace which will largely be sheer forces and some tension well within limits of the bolts themselves. Good to know the snapped part isn't critical too! |

For whatever reason, BMW claim they're all single use - even the ones that are only 28Nm and used to bolt the carbon brace in place. So maybe there is something about the sheer forces.
Some of the other bolts use quite a high initial torque followed by a further 45 or 90 degrees (on the M46 the brace between the front subframe and the body shell specifies two further tightening steps after the initial torque, applied in a specific sequence, which is reminiscent of a cylinder head). I would be happy to retighten any of those that specify an extra tightening step to the initial torque, but no further. Separately, if you have a look at the two links to realoem above, you'll realise you haven't been sent the full set, so you may as well just order new. Plus, I don't recognise some of those fixings as having anything to do with the brace or strut tops. HTH |
