They are not a 3k battery, the F80 OEM battery which is ~30 lb lighter is $1,200 retail. When you factor in the actual cost to BMW (remove dealer cut which probably 40% because shop wholesale price is at least 25% off) plus subtracting with they're paying for the original battery it's probably a couple hundred dollar difference at most.

It also has the same footprint as our current battery, and it's almost exactly 30 pounds lighter.

As for the electrical stuff it uses a slightly different IBS (intelligent battery sensor) but if you swapped in the battery and the IBS it's a quick coding change in E-sys and you can run the battery in the M2 comp right now as is.

So it really should be a no-brainer.

I was quoted 3k to replace the battery in my F82 if it needed to be done. This was parts and labour.

Plus, I'm in Canada, so don't forget any exchange rates, etc.

This should be a non issue as there are folks on BMW and rennlist forum doing swaps for $300-$550 for various Li-ion batteries. They're using the ATX20 instead of the one recommend in the car selector.

Easily more than M4 GTS money. Not going to be competitive as a product.

I'd just skip carbon parts (and other bespoke parts) to save cost and settle for GTS moniker for much less asking price. There is a chance it is successful.

So my guess is we'll see a factory CF roof. The other carbon bit will be M Performance.

Those are May 2019 pictures of the M2 CS prototype with license plate "M CI 1207" (Nürburgring test sessions). It's the prototype that also featured in the April 2019 update (see here).

At first glance, I discern no exterior changes (except for the four antennas mounted on the windscreen for collecting test data).
