Dented my brand new M2 bumper!!
I had a minor accident in the parking lot. Dented my bumper. Does anyone has any idea how much it’s gonna cost to get it fixed. My dealer recommended me a body shop and I got a quote of $1200. Is it a fair price, or is he ripping me off. I don’t wanna use insurance as I don’t want it ending on carfax. Here are some pictures.

$1200 seems light honestly that's a lot of different pieces that need to be painted and cleared. Can't just touch up unfortunately.

I am shocked they don't need an entire new bumper.
Edit: because that looks bent/dented to me.

I wouldn't worry about the carfax as anyone that is concerned enough to review a carfax report is going to be able to tell that you had the bumper repainted. Most dealers that are accepting trades are not concerned about bumpers that are repainted as many cars need it due to rock chips after 3 or 4 years. I think that even most private party buyers understand that minor damage occurs.
The price seems close to the $800 - $1,000 that I have paid over the years for full bumper refinishing. You might consider getting a quote from a BMW certified body shop in your area. If I was going to buy your car in the future I would want to know that you went to one. Unfortunately, it looks like BMW of Mt Laurel might be the closest certified body shop to you. |

$1200? Depends on the quality of work really. I can't tell, are they going to to have get you a new bumper and paint it because it's dented too much? Or strip yours then paint it? Or are they just going to sand down those spots and paint it?
I had looked into if I had to do a quality paint job for stone chips, what would it be in my area? I think the quotes were like $900-1200 if it was a full respray on bumper. |

OP, after getting this fixed, invest in PPF and it's totally OK to get out of the car to check if you're going to hit something or not. |

Anyone interested in your car will simply ask and you can show them the pictures of how little damage it was. I had the similar situation with a 1M coupe where I told the buyer that BMW had re-sprayed the side of my car because they spilled chemicals on the paint. They re-sold the car with clean carfax and didn't tell the new buyer. When she found out that it had been repainted she was about to sue thinking the car had been wrecked. They contacted me and I sent an email to the new buyers with pictures of the car paint damage showing her there was nothing structural at all, just paint. She was relieved after that and everything was solved. Sorry for the damage, I know it hurts. Finally, if you are going to sell the car soon, don't fix it. The new owner can pick the body shop of their choice and you can paint it or they can buy it and paint it but most of us will end up having to repaint a bumper sooner or later. The paint is very thin and the cars are very low and tend to make contact with a lot of things. Best wishes. |

1st off that sucks, really sorry it happened. to me the damage is low and not that bad. one idea is to use a hot ass mobile guy to touch it up and save the removal if and when you really take a hit. where I live is the land of cars and lots of amazing shops. I have seen the work from both and the mobile guys are insanely good esp for something like this, I am sure you would never be able to tell anything happened and not that you care the cost for that would be in the $ 300-450 range I would guess
edit: in LA a remove, repair, paint and replace would be 1800-2000 for this. no way you need a new bumper. give the mobile guys a shot, there must be a ton of them out that way Last edited by M2LA; 07-16-2017 at 09:29 PM.. |

$1200 is about right to R&R the bumper, repair it, and paint it.
