I just can't decide between the M2 and the Audi RS3. I know they are totally different concepts... But the M2 just doesn't have good looking seats (side stability is very good though), not even LED turning lights in front or back, and still a lot of hard plastic on the inside (especially by the gearshift).

I haven't seen anything in our dealer systems yet. And I check multiple times a day. That's how I was able to snag the SOP/EOP production dates a few months back. It is going to be insane as soon as it officially pops up. Our wait list is 7 people long as of this pat Saturday.

I was in a similar situation before I got my M135i: I never actually even considered the BMW, because it just didn't appeal to me design- and interior-quality-wise (I came from a VW and initially wanted to go for an Audi A3/S3).
But then a friend called my attention to the M135i and after my first test drive, there was no going back. The way these things drive instantly made up for any optical and haptical shortcomings. It was such a difference to the usual "hot hatchback" driving dynamics.

I have neither driven the new RS3 nor the M2, so I don't know if it will be the same between those cars, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

In any case, I just wanted to say: Don't worry about design details – there are much more important things about these cars.

And it's not really that the M2 did anything wrong, it's more like I'm really falling for the way these older BMW's (E36 M3) drive. And no, I'm not complaining about stupid things people love to do lately about mirrors and seats and no CF roof

Looks: Tie
Space: F80. Would be nice to retire the E36 and make the F80 the DD. Would be stupid not to when you are paying all this money. The extra space and doors could come in handy
Engine: S55
Nimble/Fun: M2. But I already have an E36, so what am I really bringing to the table with the M2?
Interior: F80. But just because I really wanted cloth seats.
Availability: Moot point for me. Because the F80 is much more expensive, I'd have to hold off until at least Summer 2016. But most people aren't going to be able to get an M2 until then anyway, so tie.
Weight: Tie. This is the part that bugs me a little. With how I'd option out the F80, they'd pretty much weigh the same

Having said all this, the M2 is definitely still on the table and I'll definitely be on this forum for a while. What would absolutely bring me back would be:
1) If I can't afford an F80
2) The reviews come out and say this is the second coming of the E30 M3. It has to be THAT good

Either way, this is currently what I'm aiming for :
Rolling in the same dilemma. Have a E92 335is which I love but want the M3 badly. Four doors, M performance, great DD and track car all rolled into one. Fell in love with it at the M School.

But...

The M2 is incredibly attractive especially with BMW pushing the reboot of the lightweight, classic formula that made it so popular and successful. The fun factor is definitely there but I had so much fun in the M3 and I know what I would be getting. It is out of its first year so most first year issues are mostly corrected.

If I option out a M2 to my liking and it approaches the 3K striking distance of the M3, then a three it is.

I will also be looking to lease, and the M3 is leasing really well right now. Not sure how the M2 will initially lease and I am not willing to take it in the shorts when a good M3 lease will do.

For... What... It... Is... Worth...

Those looking for an entry level M car for the most fun, M2 is the car. You cannot argue your truly getting the things that matter now here is my reasoning for my opening statement.

1.S engine - I understand cost. Great they added components from S55 would have been nice to get a S designation and unique to M2
2. Seats - just ridiculous, just look at the competition and cheaper cars. No excuse
3. Non M Mirrors - lame and inexcusable.
4. No M button - again why not
5. No M2 designation on door sills just M. Same as 1M I know. It's the small things
6. No Oil pressure gauge - Thought this was a performance M
7. CF roof as option would have been nice visually and suited M2
8. Tyre widths <10mm - just adding this as another silly example so as not to outshine m4

It's like they do not want to acknowledge this as a true M car yet they keep saying it is. If it is then why cut things that have applied to all other current and past M generations. When I look at the 1M it's clear they designed this car to be a timeless classic like past gens. I don't think the M2 will. Things like Analog gauges (oil pressure) add to that

I know some of these things are minor but they are exactly the reason why they should have been included. The potential deal breaker for me is mainly seats and the fact the weight is same as bigger brothers and the little bits listed added together make it less special to me.

There are those that want status and larger cars. That's what the M4 and M3 is for. But for the true driver they want the M2 and they should have built the car around that. Simple.

Final price in oz is final factor for me to decide M2 or F80. Only thing holding back on F80 is $$ and size.
Well said... I'm out. This car is a major disappointment. M235s is what it is.

Don't quite really fully absolutely agree and I hope it's not like a fanboy defending the M2 no matter what. I mean.. it's been pushed far enough up the ladder that it's something else. Not an M235 class anymore.. though not M3 either.

I say this because of the lighter axles and the suspension bits. And the differential. And the supposedly-but-not-holding-my-breath better steering system. I care about the extra power and promised improved throttle response (pistons) and durability (cooling, crankshaft). I care about the 6MT with the carbon fiber tube to improve feel. Add to this the additional testing and tuning this model went through and you're not in Kansas anymore. This is what sets it apart from a merely tuned M235.

As for mirrors, CF roof, and M badges.. really? There is an old saying: What makes the car go faster is cool. What merely looks cool, isn't.

Still, totally agree with you on the oil gauge.

The driving difference will be huge if it's the same as comparing an M3 to the 235 which I did end of last year as the 235 was very disappointing.

The M2 disappointment is the side mirrors, no carbon fibre roof and new hood. The car it's a little plain looking.

I'm currently in an M235 lease since I knew the M2 was coming, and I was also contemplating an M3. I knew by the end my lease M3 rates would be that much better and M2 reviews would be in and availability/ rates would be better.

Lately, I was leaning heavily towards the M3, the 2 door situation was getting a little old, and having slightly more room in the M3 would be welcomed. Also I felt the M3, was a little more special, CCB's, Carbon driveshaft, more internal engine work, etc

But after seeing that LBB M2 in person...it really looks good, the color looks great and the car has presence. Anyone thinking it's too similar to the m235, it's not. I parked my car next to the M2 and you can definitely tell it's a different beast. I took pics but they didn't come out great since it was at night and strange enough the lights in that section of parking lot just happened to be off, but I do have pics although they're really bad, I can post if anyone is interested.

After seeing the M2 in person, it really made me rethink the M3 decision. I'm still leaning towards the M3, but the M2 will be a little less expensive and that M2 looked really good, maybe it was because it was dark out or maybe it's because the car is new and I've gotten used to looking at M3 pics too much.

I can't wait to see the reviews of this car but I have a feeling the reviews of this car will sound something like, "BMW's own M3 killer/ this is the perfect M car, better handling, better size, etc" which won't make my decision any easier

Gonna depend on availability. On a lease until mid 2017. If price is right and I can get one for Euro Delivery, then sure.

There will be M2 dealer demo cars around (HEA car = Handler-Erst-Ausstattung), but no M2 will be delivered to a customer - worldwide - before April 16, 2016.

Like I said, it was an estimate given by the dealer at the time. Now that the financing's all sorted out, I'm sure we'll get a concrete date soon.

I see what you are saying. I swear i just read the M2 might not get LCI with the standard 2er because of BMWs illogical nature on M Cars.

Not really that bad when you consider the very first batch of cars won't arrive for another half a year.

I do understand to live for the moment and not always wait for what's around the corner, but BMW is about to pull the same move as they did with the E90 and F80 M3. Meaning have it out for only 1 year or so and then update it.
