Why are my exhaust valves always open?
I bought a 2018 M2 with Remus catback a few weeks ago, and I'm trying to figure out why my exhaust valves are both always open. At startup, in comfort, sport, sport+, and traction mode. They don't actuate, ever.
I checked the harness and the Remus splitter is plugged into both valves and into the OEM harness. Also checked that fuses 145/146 are present. Also pushed the BC button for 2 seconds to see if it has Macht Schnell EVC... nope. There is also nothing plugged into the OBD2 port. Aside from a potential harness failure, what am I missing? Is there potential coding that could do this? |

I have the same car and exhaust, the valves will stay open pretty much all the time. I use the CG Precision VSC-1 valve controller so that I can control them if I want to quiet the car down a bit in the mornings, but besides that I usually leave them open. If you have bm3 you can actuate them within the app too.

I just removed the actuators and closed the valves by hand. Drove around a bit, and I'm not sure I can even tell a difference. So maybe it doesn't even matter. Based on the design of the exhaust (just a helmholtz resonator on each pipe), I wasn't expecting much. Seems like the valves are a bit of a gimmick on the Remus.

They might be faulty; the valves should close in comfort mode and open in sport mode. If this is an issue, I recommend you get the VSC controller to control them manually

I notice a pretty big difference in drone/vibration with the valves closed although my car has a Remus with a catless downpipe - its definitely worth it to get a dedicated valve controller

Apparently I should've searched more thoroughly:
https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1340967 My car must be one of the ones that has the software bug that keeps the valve open, so a VSC-1 won't be able to actuate it; neither will any of the OBD solutions. There is a solution with an Arduino posted elsewhere... seems pretty stupid that I have to make my own valve controller |
