Easy DIY for LED backup lights
Hey yall!
Yeah, this is crazy simple to do, but always want to share and give back to this awesome community! This is the first of no doubt what will be dozens of DIYs for the F87 coming faster than I thought possible! Just select the right bulb type (pre or post LCI) install and code the change so you don't get any errors!

Yup! Confirm but I bet you have the bulb plug style rather than the blade style.. but easy to check first. Either app will work but I found Bimmercode had a few more options and made more sense.

Thanks. So some bulbs are screw or bayonet? And some are blade type.
I think I'll go bimmercode then, just need a WiFi adapter. |

Since the tail lights come off do easily, its an easy check. I have both of the bulb types listed in the description

Don't think my Thor adapter works with bimmercode.
On their site it says Android and E series only. What is Android referring to the car or the phone? Do we go branded for the LED bulbs e.g. Philips or osram or another make? I want reverse to be like a supernova! |

I went simple on bulbs for now.. high Amazon ratings plus as high lumens as I could get. The difference is amazing.. the view out the back is much much brighter.

Totally doing this! Anyone know if these are the same lights used for the rear fogs? I have mine turned on.

- OG: LEDriving SL P21W WHITE (part # 7506DWP) [1] - LCI/Competition: LEDriving SL W21W WHITE (part # 7505DWP) [2]. This guy [3] made a nice video comparing those OSRAM LEDs to other LED alternatives and the original incandescent version. Long story short it did not perform well at all so I am personally going with the one he recommended [4]. I also ordered a couple [5][6] of other (more recent?) versions from the same manufacturer to compare, I'll report back once I receive them. In my part of the world I actually get a lot of that crappy Chinese products. I bought a few to try on my Subaru and at one time it almost nearly burnt the whole light assembly. It’s a good thing I didn’t mount the whole assembly yet and had someone step on the brakes (I was testing brake lights obviously). The bulb started smoking. When I investigated the base and the led part were not even glued together.

Yeah, I am planning to run them on my bench first before installing them to check that there are no thermal issues. |

Auxito I think is a known brand. Seems like with quality also.
What's the verdict on coding—is it LED bulb dependent? or vehicle? I really don't want to be coding. Last edited by vrooooom; 10-18-2023 at 10:22 PM.. |
