I've pulled the Australian Design Rules (ADR) to hopefully fined something to defect the car and force BMW to fix.
Had an opportunity to read through the ADR's tonight and found this little chestnut....

5.1. The display of the speedometer must be located within the direct field of view of the driver and must be clearly legible both day and night. The range of speeds displayed must be sufficiently wide to include the maximum speed of this type of vehicle as stated by the manufacturer.

It would appear my new car doesn't pass ADR 18/03 - Instrumentation legislation here in Australia.....

I 'remedied' this by installing the P3 gauge (occupying only the upper air vent at the window side). Speed permanently displayed in big orange/amber figures (softer contrast in the dark - brighter contrast during daylight). OBC on my instrument cluster: Speed Limit Info + SATNAV in one screen.
Does the P3 also display oil and coolant temps?

Yes.

OBD2 data: oil temp, coolant temp, intake air temp, exhaust gas temp, throttle plate, speed, RPM with shift-light, battery voltage.

Seeing as the speedometer goes all the way up to 300 kmh (?), the graduation between speeds is not easy to see at a glance, even when it's properly illuminated. What is also needed, in my humble opinion, is a large illuminated digital speed readout in the middle so as to make it easier not to exceed the speed limit.

That's why my P3 gauge displays my digital speed most of the time: discreetly on the left in big amber figures changing quicker than the tiny OBC digital speedometer (you can toggle the contrast: bright or soft (driving in the dark)).

Just select speed with the BC. Done. I hate digital speedo. I also can see the cluster just fine.

Since 80 MPH is almost straight up, I use that for reference.
