What mods can you get away with if your car is still under warranty ???
BMW noob here and I have a question for you guys . I still have the warranty for my car and I was wondering what I can get away with and have my car still warranted? I talked to the service manager and he said any mods have to be done by a dealer? Is this guy pulling my chain or what? My car is bone stock and I have the jb4 coming in the mail. Next is the PE.

Definitely not the JB4.
BMW PE would be fine, most likely. Try and minimize the amount of mods you have on your car when you take your car in, unless you're good friends with your SA and they know about your car. |

depends on dealer and your SA. Your exhaust shouldnt be a problem. The other bolt-ons will be. Tune/downpipes/intercooler etc....

Thanks mark. I did my hw on the jb4 so I know what do expect with that . The SA was saying they can install the PE and a bigger intercooler? Wasn't sure . My goal is the jb4 PE and I think that's pretty much it?

A little surprised they would offer to install an aftermarket intercooler. I feel like that is one of the things you wouldn't generally have to switch out, if you were using one that used stock connections. Again, it really depends. |

I got away with a BOV, DCI, tune, exhaust, angel eyes, and other cosmetic stuff on my last car. They obviously saw it and just didn't care.
I don't have much on my current car, but they still don't say anything. I don't think they can deny warranty work unless they can prove the aftermarket part caused the problem

I went in FBO (custom headlights, amuse bumper, exhaust, FMIC, dp, CP/BOV, DCI, heck even a carbon hood and trunk with decals of all the parts on the car and got turbos changed.
You just have to know what dealers and SAs to work with. I also had a fuel pump sensor failure that would only happen when in map in jb4, literally floored it tripped the code and threw it in map 0 in the dealer lot. |

Aesthetic mods usually aren't a big deal (AE's, black grille, etc). Performance mods will be either hit or miss, depending on your dealer and SA. I have a great SA, but still flash my COBB back to stock before going in, just to be absolutely safe. Never had an issue for any of my other mods.

Depends on the dealer. I've been in with a JB3, downpipes, diverter valves, charge pipe, DCI, the works. They called me and told me that my tranny pan was cracked and needed replacing, that it was under warranty and they were taking care of it. I never heard a word about the mods.
