Your car may still be under the new car warranty as 4 years haven't quite passed from 2010 and you may have fewer than 50K miles on it. If that's so, the dealer won't charge you anything.

If you have 29,000 or 59,000 miles, then you are approaching the scheduled "Inspection" service, aka "Vehicle Check".

And if your car is still under the OEM warranty, your dealer will do this service under the covered maintenance plan.

See your Warranty/Service manual for further info.

Even tho the car doesn't have warranty, you still get the maintenance plan (Free oil changes, free wiper blades, free brake pads/rotors, free 30k mile check, etc).

Nothing fancy going on in the vehicle check, just take it to your local Indy mechanic to have a look over while doing an oil change. Resetting the indicator is easy to do as well (takes a few seconds). It's just BMW's way of getting you into their service bays to rape you of $150 so you can enjoy a new loaner and the coffee/bagels. Very over rated to be honest!

Once again, this should be the car on the lift symbol in either yellow/red from the service reminder section. When I bring in my car for an oil change at the dealership, I use the coupons they usually have from their website for $62 OTD including all fees and taxes. This includes them reset the oil light, changing the oil and filter, plugging up the computer to the car to read codes, and a car wash. The cars computer can basically tell you EVERYTHING that is going on in the car. Which is why this is kinda of a dumb service to pay for, the only benefit would be the visual inspection of your car and that would be done by anyone who is changing the oil on the car anyways.

Please remember you still have an extended warranty on your car for the following items:
8 year/82k miles for the turbo's/wastegates
10 year/120k miles for the HPFP

They also have lots of manufacturer recalls which will be done for free, like the issue with a bad batch of fuel injectors which will get replaced. HPFP recall and car re-programming. Finally the most recent was the battery cable recall. Please inquire about those recalls ASAP at your dealership.

Just as a FYI, you should search for the following "Mike Millers old school service", read that so you know what you should do for servicing your vehicle. Like every two years you need to get the brake fluid flushed. You should also be changing your motor oil every 1 year OR 7500 miles (even tho BMW says 15k miles). Spark plugs should be done at 45k miles, get them here for $69: http://www.burgertuning.com/N54_BMW_...t_adapter.html and have an Indy mechanic install it for $50. Also you should learn to change out your own HVAC in cabin filter (takes like 5 mins to do) and to change/dust off your motor air filter. You can get great deals on these from Amazon
