more brake dust in the front...???

Anyone know why the XIs have more brakedust in the front than the rear?
Or all cars the same cuz the force is within the front?

The brakes in front bear most of the load for stopping; 70%, I think.

All the same. The front brakes do the majority of the work, and thus wear faster.

This applies to most cars.

Other than braking force, another factor includes pad size. Larger surface areas generate more dust.

just an interesting or maybe not note...

when i traded in my 05 g35 coupe the front had around 85% and the rear with 30% meat left on the pads... go figure.

the only resonable conclusion was that during normal breaking the rear brakes took more of the load to reduce the front end from dipping. under hard use the fronot would take the majority of the load.

as i was cleaning and *sigh* waxing my wheels on sunday ... i asked myself if flat black wheels w/wo gloss coat would work. I never answered myself... guess i wasnt listening.

toss a set on and problem solved ???

ppp

p.s. on my G35 coupe i never had to clean my wheels ... it was a ratio of like 5 car washes to 1 wheel wipe (just wipe).

Every car I've ever had gets more brake dust in the front than in the rear.

Yes, the front brakes do most of the stooping hence they are dirtier.

You should clean your wheels thoroughly using tar and bug remover if necessary and then put on a coat (or two) of paint sealant and top it off periodically with wax. The brake dust will come off with little or no effort and this will also prevent pitting.

everyone forget to mention that the front brake disc is also a tad larger then the rear (so it is not only does it work harder but also larger which = more brake dust).

The 335i was the first car with front and rear disks that I get about the same amount of dust on both. I have a sport package so I am not sure that makes a difference.

Every other car I've owned the front's had lots and the back's hardly any. I see G35's around with the fronts caked in black dust and hardly any on the rears, so I wonder if the rears on G35 actually do anything.

I know this I going to be anal and all but a tip on cleaning off the dust...

Every day when I come home from work, I take a cloth and whip off the wheels of the loose dust so ever morning I leave with nice clean wheels. This works great until the wheels get wet than the dust needs a good washing to get it off.

I use brake dust accumulation as a gague of how much people love their cars. E90's and 92's around here never have any. 40-year-old women driving Mercedes C's looks like they're trying to black out the front end.

FWIW, I wipe mine off once a week between weekly washes. I should try the polish thing.

I've read about brake pads that supposedly sheds less dust, I don't know if they work well though.
