Anyone own a full-size Pickup, along with you're E90? I'm trying to decide on a Ford F150, or a Dodge Ram 1500. Thanks.

I dont have a truck but some of my friends do and they all have the F-150 (V-6 turbo Eco boost). A few are former Dodge owners and they are very pleased with their decision. I personally would choose a flat black F-150 SVT Raptor.

Yes, the raptor is nice. I test drove one, and WOW does it go. However, $50,000 I need to pass on it. I'm looking at FX4, or XLT supercab. I prefer the V8 over the V6. Interesting enough the V6 Eco boost only gets about 1 mile better than the V8. Also, the V8 exhaust sounds much better than the V6. This will be the vehicle I'll drive in the winter, and when I go into the city. The winter months are pretty bad in the Northeast, along with year round potholes, and metal plates on the highways.

Depends what you want. If you're performance oriented, you can't touch GM Trucks. There's too much out there and they're ridiculously easy to workon.

Personally, the F150 is (in my opinion) the best over all truck.

I own andolder 99 silverado that has full bolt-ons, cam, 3600 stall converter, an had a 150 shot on it at one point. If I were to buy a brand new truck I'd go with an F-150.

With that said, the Raptors are a joke. They run something ridiculous like mid-low 15s in the 1/4, there are quite a few with bent frames just from normal use (no wrecks), heavy, and gas mileage is atrocious.

Basically, it comes down for what you plan to use it for, what your budget it and what cab/bed setup you're looking at.

Not towing, or hauling anything, nor am I looking for performance. I'm looking for a dependable, reliable as can be 4x4 pickup. The XLT model supercab is the one that interest me. It's decently equipped, and around $31,000- $35,000. A friend told me that Ford usually gives steep discounts off MSRP. Reviews give the F150 a slight edge over Dodge. Is it safe to say Ford has improved on their quality? Thanks.

My family had an F-150 (for about 6 years) with never a problem and now a Ram 1500for about two years. I love Ford trucks - always have. If you were actually going to use the truck for work, I'd highly recommend the Ford. But if you are just looking at a daily driver, the Ram is pretty tough to beat - great interior and the suspension they use doesn't give maximum towing, but rides fantastic, even with an empty bed. And the latest Rams with the Pentastar V6 and 8-speed auto get incredible gas mileage and I think you can even get them with an air suspension now (which we have had on both our Rovers and I LOVE).

Bottom line, can't go wrong with either of them.

If you want reliability and decent performance, pick up a GMC/Chev with a 5.3L. We have more F-150's towed into to our shop then any other pick-up. Mind you, the majority are a few years old now but if they don't need a fuel pump module they have broken an upper control arm (ball joint) or its going to break. Don't forget about the spark plug issues on the older 5.4L's if you decide to buy used. The newer Dodges seem better then they were a few years ago. I think it was 09 and older for Rams that were just dumpsters, rear diffs blowing apart, front diffs blowing apart, every front end part every 30K and they rust like a Pinto.

My favorite truck is the 5.7L Tundra. That right there is a phenomenal truck.

Why do you need a full size? If bed size is not an issue, I'd suggest a used Hummer H3T Alpha. I have one and love it. You'd be surprised how well it handles and brakes. The cab is roomy with 4-doors but sill compact enough for city driving, and it will go anywhere in the snow. It has good ground clearance but it is not hard to get in and out of.

I had a 2000 GM 5.3L 4x4. That thing was stupid reliable. Ended up putting a supercharger on it, and really fun to drive.

I replaced it with a 2008 GMC Sierra, and that thing is plagued with cost cutting issues. It currently is 5 years old, only has 38000km on the odo (24000 miles), and the bumpers have giant rust spots (quarter sized), the undercarriage is all rusted, the oil pan leaks, the battery died in the first year, door handles ripped off the door, engine has cold knock, and it keeps going..... Out of the box it had so much torque management that the thing was a dog. Had to spend $500 on a tune just to get what I paid for.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I'd support the general again on my next truck. I've never been a Ford fan, but I'd seriously consider that eco boost F150. I know from my past truck + supercharger, having that boosted torque at the bottom end is VERY nice.

The F-150 with the eco boost is a great truck... It gets decent gas mileage, has plenty of torque, and is pretty quick for a heavy truck!

I'm looking at a new truck. My concern is the reliability of the truck. I won't be going off road. Everything I read so far gives the F150 the edge over it's competitors. I'm just afraid of getting myself into a money pit post warranty.

I am a building contractor and drive a big 4 x 4 dodge 2500 crew cab long bed cummins diesel. About the biggest pick up you can buy, it works great by the way. Very bullet proof and is off road almost every day. (Also much more expensive than our bmw if you can believe that)

Either of the vehicles you are looking at will be quite reliable, much more so than our cars for that matter, and will comfortably go 200k miles with normal maintenance. Also, they are really a bargain compared to the bigger trucks like mine, or other vehicles on the road today.

I'm curious about the reliability of the ecoboost in the ford, being a turbo engine and all. Most of my friends drive the shit out of their trucks for work and on daily use so it makes me wonder if the Ecoboost is up to the challenge before something breaks.

Thanks Mark. I didn't realize how much these trucks cost. They can go as much as $60,000. However I'm looking at 2013 F150 supercab XLT, pretty much base. One thing I'm not a fan of all that chrome. I hope there is a model with less chrome. I'll probably get silver over black. My E90 is black and I don't want another pita vehicle to keep clean.

We own a 2006 Tundra that we picked up used in 2009. Love the truck, and has never given us any problems. I had to change the battery after two years, but that was my own fault. We don't drive that truck often enough, so the battery gets drained.

150k miles later, still runs like new. I'm hesitant on buying anything American, but that's my own bias.

Are you really knocking the Raptor, which is supposed to be an off road truck, because of a 1/4 mile time? Thats like saying the 335 has terrible off road ground clearance....

Low 15s isnt that bad considering it weighs OVER 6000 pounds. Some import compact "sports cars" run high 14s or low 15s while weighing only 3300 pounds or something. So Im not sure how that time is even bad when you consider the weight and it being off road built. I mean heck, the BRZ weighs like 2700 pounds and runs the 1/4 in the 15s.
