TIPs for driving with a lowered car..
Eh I figured I'd share with you guys, a lot of you are lucky you dont live in New York, we have potholes the size of my car. Please add your tips, I'll share mine;
-Watch traffic in front of your car, this one is pretty simple, if you look at the wheels of the car in front of you, you can tell how severe a bump really is. -If there are no cars on the road and obviously no cops around I drive on the opposite lane sometimes to avoid large clusters of potholes. -I memorize areas, and know which lane to drive in which street. -Take all speed bumps at a 45 degree angle -If you are about to hit a pot hole and have no way of avoiding it brake as hard as you can BEFORE the pothole and then completely let off the brakes when you hit it. These are pretty basic, but I still felt like sharing them. |

Good tips... for the pothole speed bump I use a slight variation. Brake hard, but then slowly accelerate through it versus letting the car take the brunt of the impact. Rarely happens, but works well. Try it on a different car if you can

I was driving in college point and I sped up like an idiot near a pot hole I usually swerve around. Of course there was some douche in a minivan double parked there so I had to hit it. I sound was so loud I was sure that my wheel came off.

I always take speed bumps straight on. While my BMW isn't lowered my A4 was slammed, so slammed that a rock in the middle of the road put a hole in my oil pan once. The reason for this is if you go at an angle, at least on my Audi, if you were to hit it would hit the transmission. I find if you go over straight, stop the car at the peak of the bump, and slowly (using the brakes) let the car down the other side of the speed bump you can get over the bump without the car bouncing and slamming into the speed bump. Also if you do hit this way chances are it will hit the jack points instead of anything too important.

Best tip of all - don't lower the car in the first place.

Exactly, damn near all the highways are jacked up LIE, Grand central, Cross island, Belt, FDR...you name It. Also all the above rules apply for those driving with low profile tires as well.

I do all these things on non lowered/non performance cars. It's just good driving habits imo.

When I am about hit an unavoidable pothole, I just clench my butthole as tight I can until I go through.

Potholes are more issues for low profile tires and big wheels. Lowered cars shouldn't have a problem with potholes unless you're ridiculously slammed or the pothole is like 6 inches deep. But you should try to avoid or minimize pothole impacts in any car to prevent possible damage.
Only issues for driving lowered is speed bumps and driveway ramps.

I disagree. I don't think my driving experience has diminished so much so that I now loathe driving. I'll still get "spirited" when I feel I have the chance. It just all depends on who does the drop imho. It's either lowered correctly or it's not.

Good tips lowered or not. And I do the same.
New York must be one the crappiest places drive if you are looking for an Ultimate driving experience. I deliberately do not drive to certain areas because of this. Oh yea don't honk at me either for slowing down for a pothole you "I don't give a crap about my car" New York drivers. Another tip: Switch on Fogs at night. For me it allows me to read the depth of the road if there aren't cars in front to judge from. |

Honestly he's right. It's not cool to be "hella flush" unless it's a show car only. It ruins the perfectly engineered suspension geometry, thus causing extra sometimes extreme wear on your car. If you want your car lowered, then buy one with a sport package.

I'm sorry but none of you have any idea about bad roads until you've lived in a city that is sinking, New Orleans, LA. I have traveled to SF and NYC multiple times and NYC is pretty bad in parts but still doesn't hold a candle to NOLA. I have friends who have come from all over and are set that we have the worst roads ever. I guess thats what happens when you build a city in a bowl. This is an actual street I had to drive down everyday going to highschool in my SLAMMED 318ti. You have to avoid any puddles, bc some of them can actually be 3 ft deep yet only a foot wide.
