It's a bad habit, and it's been taught that motorists should not do that starting in 1992 (most of us weren't born yet i.e. our entire lives). Shows that he's not a particularly aware/astute driver.

SRS, and also preventing your elbows from being locked in the event of an accident. This is nothing new, as I said, taught since around 1992 and in full-force in 1995. The 10 and 2 was something in the days when cars didn't have power steering, it gave more leverage. Since most cars seem to have a 3 post steering wheel, 8 and 4 is more appropriate. The location of the paddle shifters (particularly the downshift thumb location) certainly implies that 9 and 3 is the way to go, according to BMW at least...

Looks like an F10 to me. Mirror, steering wheel, and trim around the door lock are the hints.
