Convertible cargo mat
Hello all,
Just got a new 2011 335i convertible and was wondering what people have been using as a cargo mat? BMW apparently does not make one anymore. I did a search and found the following link: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147408 Unfortunately the the thread is like 2 years old and there was no conclusion. I went to the hexamat web site and there were no 2011 mats for the 335i, but there was one for the 2010 model. Are the trunk dimensions the same for both years? To all 335i convertible owners out there, what are u using for the trunk mats (I assume 328i's are the same dimensions)? |

You may want to try MacNeil Automotive / Weather Tech. I have purchased floor and cargo mats for several vehicles and am pleased with everything. GL

I checked their web site... the cargo liner is only for the sedan or coupe. Anyone else have any ideas? The hexamat has one for the 2010 convertible but I don't know if it'll fit the 2011 model. What are you fellow convertible owners using out there??? Thanks.

No Luck So Far
I too searched for a cargo mat for my 335i vert. No luck. While I enjoy the MacNeil mats in the cabin I really wish they made a mat with a lip for the trunk. No luck so dar.

e93 convertible trunk is tiny...
The trunk size of e93 convertible is ridiculously small, no room for a donut spare, just enough for a six pack. So, I wasn't gonna spend money to buy a cargo mat, don't know even if one exists; instead used the factory mat as template, using a cutter made a cut out from a remnant rug piece. Lifted the factory mat, put in the back of the remnant rug, traced it with a sharpie, then using a cutter, carefully cut the reverse side of the carpet, then fitted in place. It looked pretty neat and so far has stayed in place just like an expensive custom made piece. You can try it too.... cheers!!!

Hookah66, that looks pretty nice. What do you mean by "factory mat" though? One made for the convertible by BMW? |

I have to admit, mats are a rip-off. I got a choice, carpeted or winter, free when I got my car. Went with the carpeted and got them 4 wks. after delivery since they were out of stock. Got Michelin mats at the auto store on day of delivery, and they were better than the carpeted OEM so I threw the OEM in the basement unused to this day. Decided to get the OEM rubber recently, very disappointed (maybe I have high standards such as they are flimsier than the Michelins), and made by MacNeil. Also have the OEM trunk mat made by MacNeil, what can I say? A fool and his money are easily parted. Thinking OEM mats are great is like believing that Bose is high fidelity. The millions they spend on marketing do build a brand recognition and sales. A mat is a mat, true. OEM's cost $56 for fronts. Wal mart costs around $17. One says BMW, the other does not.

Thanks for the compliment. I got sick of the exhorbitant rip off prices for the mats, so I decided to custom make one myself. I have never come across any cargo mat for the e93 convertible, the cargo area is tiny. Sorry, I wasn't too clear in my explanation. If you look at the factory piece, i.e. the gray color formed piece in the first photo, I lifted that piece out from the trunk, and used as a pattern on the backside of the remnant rug piece, it is always easier to cut a rug from back side and by doing so you minimize fray as well. Use a new blade for the cutter. Once it gets worn, before I throw it out, I use it as a pattern for the new piece.Try it... you will like it...cheers. PS: Once I overstuffed the trunk with junk in a trip, forced the divider down, and opened the top, while driving over bumping road, the divider got dislodged and the open mechanism got jammed (had to stick my arm and pull/bang the divider back into its latches)...it was a wonderful scaring experience, unable to close your roof with a freaked wife next to you, and black clouds on top of your head...ha ha ha...
