The head light housing is a diff story. If you bought the bulb itself then no you don't need ballast...If you bought a HID Kit, then yes it should come with a ballast..Hope that was clear enough!

To OP, I'd recommend you get a projector based headlamp housing to go with your HID bulbs. HIDs in halogens, look bad, are ricey and produce an unnecessary amount of glare to oncoming drivers.

Depo makes a replacement headlamp housing that has projectors for low beams. Various sellers offer them here and on ebay.

You will most likely need an error canceller as well since the lights will most likely flicker.

^^^^^ THIS

GP Thunder 7500k's are simply halogen bulbs like the stockers, but in a different color/light output

I know, the package says 'H.I.D.' on it - but that is a misnomer as they are not the same as the actual HID capsules, they just use that term to describe the 'look' of the light coming from the halogen bulbs. GP Thunder Halogen 'H.I.D.' bulbs will never even come close to the brightness/output of a tru HID capsule or the lifespan.

So answer is NO, ballasts not needed...

Example of GP Thunder Halogen 'H.I.D'. Bulb:

Example of actual HID Capsule:

  • The GP Thunder bulbs still use a filament inside the bulb to create light.
  • HID stands for High Intensity Discharge. It refers to lighting technology that relies on an electrical charge to ignite xenon gas contained in a sealed bulb. One great advantage of HID lighting is that it doesn't have a filament but instead creates light by igniting an arc between two electrodes. HID lights get their name from the intense white light produced by the electrical discharge. Halogen bulb which has filament has a lifespan of about 250 hours (1 year) , HID bulbs are gas filled capsules that are rated for a life of 2500-3000 hours (3 to 5 years). Another fact is that they use only 35 watts of electricity, while your stock Halogen bulbs requires 55 watts.
  • HID lights get their name from the intense white light produced by electrical discharge.

My bad, I always think people are asking about upgrading to HID bulbs.

To the OP, as the 2 posters said above, you don't need ballasts for halogen bulbs.

I agree. The LCI headlights are much nicer looking! I was going to get the Depo HIDs to replace my halogens but I just don't like the pre-lCI looking headlight assemblies. Now if depo would only use a newer housing...
