HPFP #5?

I've been getting off and on long cranks for 2 or 3 months. Everytime I thought about taking it in they would disappear. Monday I took my car for another issue, and mentioned the long cranks. They kept it overnight because they couldn't get it to duplicate. They finally got it to act up yesterday afternoon. They just called me and said they are replacing all the injectors. Anybody know if they will update software at the same time? I'm running 32.1 with the waste gate conversion right now. Meanwhile I will enjoy the manual 335 X-drive coupe they gave me!

You know, you can have BMW buy the car back at fuel pump #4.

I thought that was a duration thing. My car is a 10/06 build so I figured 3+ years and 47k miles was too late. Anybody know the real scoop on this? I'm assuming it may be a case by case thing.

I thought about that, same color and Its 3 years newer! It also has navigation and comfort access which I don't.

How do they determine how they configure a loaner anyway? This is a black sapphire metallic 335 X coupe with premium, sport, cold weather, navigation, comfort access, ipod, logic 7, satellite, but a 6 speed.

Well after 5 days I got my car back and it's starting normal (no long cranks) and running good. They ended up replacing the HPFP for the 4th time and all the injectors. SA said the injector work was $2700! Thank goodness for warranty. He also mentioned that there is another HPFP that BMW is currently testing in Germany. He said they have their engineers driving 335's over there with them installed. For those keeping track, that would be HPFP generation #4. According to him, the 3rd generation was never released after testing. I do have the upgraded one now, as was the 4th one I had installed. That one lasted about 7,000 miles. He did give me the part numbers on all of them, but I didn't write them down.

It's 881, which according to my SA is the latest one. He did say there was a model made after this one but pulled before used, and a 4th generation one now being tested in Germany.

Cause your gas is from Germany. North American gas has more ethanol which is theoretically the reason behind the failure.

I have no idea why they would be testing them in Germany?? The problem lies in the US with our sh*ty ethanol drenched gasoline. The failures that happen in Europe are minimal compared to what we are dealing with in North America.

usually if the problem started in the first 18 months or 18k miles then you have a lemon law case- though that varies by state, could be less

I dont understand how some cars can have multiple failures but other cars dont have any. If seems like most people have had zero failures or multiple failures. That suggests that something besides the pump is going bad.

I remember reading about a sensor that was going bad as well. If you dont replace that sensor, then the new pump is just going to fail again. I dont know, statistically the same car shouldnt have so many failures.

I think that there is a guy at audi headquarters with a hpfp failure button.

Don't blame the gas. It's the ridiculous N54 engine/HPFP design. Millions of cars on North American roads have no issues with 10% ethanol in the gas. Just your BMW.
