Semantics/Nomenclature
What is the term/word BMW, and other companies, use when they replace an item or fix an issue not covered under warranty and not a recall? It’s not comping but it’s _____? Can’t think of the word and it’s killing me 😆! TIA!

At Ford we use to call it Goodwill (or Goodwill warranty) if we fixed something for free out of warranty. If the customer pays it was COD (cash on demand). Every shop has different terms for it.

The term you might be thinking of is "goodwill gesture" or "goodwill repair." In the automotive industry, including companies like BMW, a goodwill gesture refers to a discretionary action taken by the manufacturer or dealer to provide assistance or cover the cost of repairs outside of warranty or recall situations. It is a way for the company to maintain customer satisfaction, build goodwill, and show appreciation to their customers by offering support for issues that may not fall under warranty coverage. Goodwill gestures are typically considered on a case-by-case basis and may vary depending on the circumstances and the relationship between the customer and the company.
