If you wouldn't have bought your M2, what would you be driving?

For me it would have been the Jag F-Type. Don't get me wrong, the contest wasn't close, but the Jag was in 2nd place. I have wanted a Vantage V8 for a long time, but I'm small and look quite young for my age, so stepping out of an Aston would have produced way too many stares/questions/jokes.

And your 2nd place?

For me there were three 2nd place cars:
• Cadillac CTS4-V Blackwing (too big for my small garage)
• Audi RS 3 (no manual)
• VW Golf R (no physical buttons for HVAC or other in-car functions)

Each of the above are lovely cars. But, for me, the OG M2 stood shoulders above 'em.

I had been looking at the M235i and the S3, but once the M2 was announced there really wasn't a 2nd place car. I knew that's what I was getting.

If the options were right, I would have been in a British Racing Green, V6S with a manual and sports seats.

That car is elegant and emotional despite being less engaging than the M2.

I would have kept this thing if the M2 did not exist...

The GT350 almost got me twice, but the OG M2 and the Comp beat it both times.

I haven’t bought yet, looking now. I guess I would still be driving my e30m60 swap. Fun toy but too raw and stiff for travel for the wifey.

Before the m2 I was driving a 2004 Mazda 3 and flirting with the idea of a used 987.2 or early 981 Cayman. If my Mazda 3 had blown up before the m2 I probably would be in a Cayman.

When the m2 came out through only other car I really thought about getting was an RS3, but it was never really in the running being the wrong kind of AWD. If I'd not been able to get the m2 in a timely fashion I possibly could have been convinced to get a used or discounted f80 m3.

I think if I had had my e90 m3 at the time I'd have skipped the m2 and would have come back to it if the e90 needed to go. As it turned out I got the m2, which led to fun car FOMO for high revving NA motors.

F-Type is awesome. But every time I drove it, it reminded me of the C7…how it drove and sounded, obviously less on the looks. I ended up paying the same price for a new C7 as a used F Type I was strongly considering. However, I ended up selling the C7 after three years and now have a 718 Boxster GTS 4.0. It doesn’t sound as lovely as the Jag but damn does it look sexy and drive incredible.

I almost bought a Jeep Wrangler instead of an M2. Even thought I had a deal in place until the dealer pulled some BS.

Decided it wasn't meant to be and turned my attention back to an M2. Thank God.

Used 911 or Cayman were the other cars in serious contention.

I was all over the map though when I started looking to get out of a commuter Acura TL into something fun. Looked at 6.2L Raptors and a bunch of other random stuff like GT350 Mustangs and AMG Mercs.

Test drove a M2C and was a changed man. I’ll drive a //M car or 911 until they cart me off to die.

I've driven Porsche's in the past, and not one ever really touched me, so I don't dream about them at all. The first BMW I really got to drive was a new E46, and the feeling was fantastic, still remember it to this day.

Maybe I'm just a BMW guy.

Have you driven a 981 GTS or any of the 718?
