Wrapping non-carbon seats
Anyone considering wrapping either a portion or the entire back of the non-carbon seats? I see there are some carbon bits for covering the upper portion of the seatback, but they'll set you back at least $1K.
I'm thinking I can get both seat backs entirely covered for that cost. Or maybe do carbon on the larger area and then something else on the smaller area. What are your thoughts? Pics for reference on an F80 in this thread where they wrapped the top portion of the seatback: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1369438 Last edited by M3-san; 07-14-2021 at 09:09 AM.. I also read that you can use a lower adhesive wrap and roll it into the texture, but it will not likely last. The other option which seems to be the right way to do it is to take the seat backs off, have them sanded and filled with 3M filler, then sanded, primed and painted. Then they are ready for wrapping. That's a lot of work and it seems the work would be best left for a body shop (unless you are up to the challenge to do it yourself). I'll probably go this route as a good friend of mine owns a body shop and can do the work. This is unless someone makes full panel covers in carbon fiber. |

Studio RSR is releasing full CF replacement seat backs. It's on their FB page from a few days ago.
https://www.facebook.com/studiorhythmandspeedracing/ I have zero idea as to the quality, etc. as I only just saw this via on of the G8x groups I'm in on FB but thought I'd throw it out there for anyone interested.

Description says full carbon replacement. But who knows without seeing more photos of the actual pieces themselves. 🤷🏻

I did contact the Studio RSR via Facebook messenger (I haven't been on Facebook in forever, I forgot how much I dislike it, lol). From their photos, their product looks great and it is a direct replacement for both of the seat back pieces. I am not going to post the price here unless I get the okay from the folks at Studio RSR (I'll point them toward my post) out of respect for them and however they want to advertise. I can say that price is very, very reasonable for what you get. Considering it's $450-$550 for just those top covers, these are a bargain. They still aren't cheap, but nothing for this car is. They are offering $100 off the first ten orders and they had 3 spots left as of last night (may have changed by now). I haven't even gotten my car yet (ETA end of August) so its going to be a chore trying to convince my better half that they are a necessity. But damn am I ever tempted. Edit: They have them up on their website now: https://studiorsr.com/collections/g8...ck-replacement They are regularly $1,895, but now on sale for $1,795 Last edited by M3-san; 07-16-2021 at 02:31 PM.. |

I’ve asked them about the possibility of getting them without the logo and I’ll let you know what they say.

Good news all. It took a few days for Studio RSR to get back to me. The seat backs can be ordered without the logo. In fact, it's just a sticker.
They are now $1800 with a five week lead time. Edit: These things are still on sale on their website for $1795. I want them, no doubt. But the boss (wife) is gonna kill me in my sleep if I spend one more penny on this car before I get it. They sure are nice though. Pics: Last edited by M3-san; 07-22-2021 at 08:37 AM.. |

So anyone ordered this? Is this a total replacement of the plastic backs? How easy is it to take them off? They look nice, I am really considering it - good alternative to the CF bucket (without the discomfort)
