Wrapping non-carbon seats

Anyone considering wrapping either a portion or the entire back of the non-carbon seats? I see there are some carbon bits for covering the upper portion of the seatback, but they'll set you back at least $1K.

I'm thinking I can get both seat backs entirely covered for that cost. Or maybe do carbon on the larger area and then something else on the smaller area. What are your thoughts?

Pics for reference on an F80 in this thread where they wrapped the top portion of the seatback:

What about these.

https://autotecknic.com/collections/...-g80-m3-g82-m4

Not sure if they are priced as a pair though

Those are nice and priced reasonably, definitely an option. One thing I am not crazy about with those though is the fact they are a cover with a little thickness so they are not going to sit completely flush. A wrap would allow for the same coverage and would sit flush.

The texture on the seats would make me question how well a wrap would stick over time.

I think you are right based on what I've researched. It seems some people on one of the Porsche forums have done this, but most people who do wraps won't touch it because like you said, wrap doesn't do well on textured surfaces.

I also read that you can use a lower adhesive wrap and roll it into the texture, but it will not likely last.

The other option which seems to be the right way to do it is to take the seat backs off, have them sanded and filled with 3M filler, then sanded, primed and painted. Then they are ready for wrapping.

That's a lot of work and it seems the work would be best left for a body shop (unless you are up to the challenge to do it yourself). I'll probably go this route as a good friend of mine owns a body shop and can do the work. This is unless someone makes full panel covers in carbon fiber.

Studio RSR is releasing full CF replacement seat backs. It's on their FB page from a few days ago.

https://www.facebook.com/studiorhythmandspeedracing/

I have zero idea as to the quality, etc. as I only just saw this via on of the G8x groups I'm in on FB but thought I'd throw it out there for anyone interested.

NCG80M3 has these installed and did a video about it. These look nice and something I'm considering.

Should post the price here once you hear back. Can't imagine it will be cheap though.

Description says full carbon replacement. But who knows without seeing more photos of the actual pieces themselves. 🤷🏻

Yeah, I think those are stick-on. They mention 3M adhesive and I can tell by the pics that they don't really sit flush, although they claim too. Not saying they aren't a good product, I'm sure they are and the price seems reasonable.

I did contact the Studio RSR via Facebook messenger (I haven't been on Facebook in forever, I forgot how much I dislike it, lol). From their photos, their product looks great and it is a direct replacement for both of the seat back pieces.

I am not going to post the price here unless I get the okay from the folks at Studio RSR (I'll point them toward my post) out of respect for them and however they want to advertise. I can say that price is very, very reasonable for what you get. Considering it's $450-$550 for just those top covers, these are a bargain. They still aren't cheap, but nothing for this car is.

They are offering $100 off the first ten orders and they had 3 spots left as of last night (may have changed by now).

I haven't even gotten my car yet (ETA end of August) so its going to be a chore trying to convince my better half that they are a necessity. But damn am I ever tempted.

Edit: They have them up on their website now:
https://studiorsr.com/collections/g8...ck-replacement

They are regularly $1,895, but now on sale for $1,795

Man I am tempted by those. You know if anyone has installed any in the wild yet? Only thing I don't like is the logo on them, not sure if that's just a sticker you can take off or not

Agree, the logo would be a deal-breaker for me. Keen to see the other finishes they offer

I’ve asked them about the possibility of getting them without the logo and I’ll let you know what they say.

Even understanding what the logo is (just a sticker that could be peeled off or something) I'd be fine with, I just hate having logos on that sort of thing

I'd be worried about passengers in the back kicking and scuffing then. Not for me though. Makes the seat look like a coffin.

Good news all. It took a few days for Studio RSR to get back to me. The seat backs can be ordered without the logo. In fact, it's just a sticker.

They are now $1800 with a five week lead time.

Edit: These things are still on sale on their website for $1795. I want them, no doubt. But the boss (wife) is gonna kill me in my sleep if I spend one more penny on this car before I get it.

They sure are nice though.

So anyone ordered this? Is this a total replacement of the plastic backs? How easy is it to take them off? They look nice, I am really considering it - good alternative to the CF bucket (without the discomfort)

I want to enjoy it in stock form through the break-in period and see what mods make the most sense. So far, I've got these, H&R wheel spacers and H&R springs. I don't think the car needs much else, but that'll probably change once I settle in with the car.

It would be far better without their sticker right in the middle.
