Picked up my car tonight - still can't believe it's finally in the driveway, after deciding to buy it a year and a half ago! Dealer had it in the front corner of the showroom, under bright lights. It was dark outside when I arrived, and I was thrilled that my car was the first thing I saw at the dealership, before even getting off the turnpike. Everyone driving that route tonight saw those gold wheels and that bright blue car, you can be sure. I know, all these MB/gold/red pics are beginning to merge together - but hey, this one's mine
Put in ~25 miles on the way home - took the long route, some highway, some twisty-hilly backroads, some good on-ramps and cloverleaves. So happy with the taught, notchy feel and the throw of the shifter - perfect for me. Still adjusting to the clutch - taller and springier than my E39 so jury is still out but thinking there might be a UCP in her future. So happy with the crazy bite and confidence of the brakes on a steep slowdown. Seats, driving position, visibility, all fantastic. Can't believe I'm glad there's no armrest! Like everyone else, I can sense the engine's really just waking up at 3.5-4K RPM, and it's tough to upshift and let it go. Coming off my torquey 540i, the car doesn't present at low-RPM in the same way. It needs to be worked to unleash it, and that will come when it's broken in. Think I might get used to the rev-matching and be happy using it to good effect. The little taste of the car's turn-in was so pleasurable - can't wait to get out tomorrow and enjoy some more. About the sound - neither epic nor offensive from the cabin, present but not loud below 4K, and surprisingly little difference between efficient and sport. But from outside the car, my first impression was it sounds great. My wife and kids all agreed it delivers an impressive growl and rumble telling you it means business, like a big dog suspicious of the new person entering the house. All-in-all super impressed and thrilled. Icing on the cake - I did a pretty close inspection of the roof from the showroom and couldn't find a single flaw around the perimeter of the roof Like Christmas morning, getting up to this beauty in the driveway. Already receiving texts from the neighbors. |

Congrats! I just ordered a clutch stop for mine. It annoys me to clutch in and go past the engagement point.

Thanks, all! Mike - we will most certainly do that. Here's to warmer weather, vaccines, ... and responsible break-in miles in the rearview mirror!
