Not surprised how close it was. They have nearly identical power/weight ratios.

Well that makes me feel slightly better about not being able to afford a Cayman GT4

The new 718 GT4 is much faster than the old one and would have likely been able to win out here. On the track the 718 GT4 are a bit faster than the DCT M2CS times and that’s not even considering the GT4 will soon have PDK and be yet faster again. I love the manual in my 718 GT4 though and glad you can get one in the BM too. It is the best I’ve ever had the chance to own.

If Porsche didn’t give the GT4 those ridiculously wide intergalactic gearings...that car would be perfect

A more interesting comparison would be the CS with DCT vs the 718 Cayman GT4 with PDK. I know the GT4 would win but it would be interesting to see by how much.

I agree, the gearing in the GT4 is terrible.

People tout the Sharkworks gears, but they don't change the long 1st and 2nd, just 3-5.

I'd rather pay 3.5K for a new pumpkin with shorter final drive:https://rennlist.com/forums/gt4/1028...ive-ratio.html

Love that lower final drive mod...should have been like that straight off from the factory

Stock gearings left me in 1-2, 2-1, 1-2, 2-1, 1-2, 2-1... the whole time while test driving over the city route...only on the freeway I was able to stretch her legs but still was in 3rd only...

Six minutes for something that can be show in 30 seconds or less. Useless.

Sadly that hasn't changed in the new GT4 and will never change. I understand Porsche wants to create distance btw the 911 and the Cayman/Boxsters but why do that at the expense of completely ruining one aspect of the driving experience? Watching videos of people rowing through the gears of the GT4 is painful and ridiculous to see how high they are geared.

I have a buddy that has a 2015 GT4. He sent it to the shop to have all the gearing changed along with having more mods done. He's constantly berating my BMW's. Like the American Chevy vs Ford argument, only with more expensive German cars. His car BARELY beats my M340. I acknowledge the defeat, then remind him that my car was $40k less, and that I haven't spent an extra $20k modifying it. 😈

Yes...that's exactly why I didn't get one as I love shifting gears manually while stabbing the clutch, keeps my central nervous system healthy and sharp

Have you driven his modded GT4? If you have I don't think you would want to hand back the keys...even this raw of the raw modern M...the 1M feels pedestrian after a drive in a GT4 or any mid engine Ferrari and I am not referring to straight line speed...mid engine cars can change direction so quickly without upsetting the car's balance and stability...

I have, and you are absolutely correct. That thing is insane. But, since he likes to talk shit... I have to give it back. Ha ha ha

He actually tracks his car. Mine is a daily driver.

Driving a well sorted mid engine sports car is quite a motoring revelation

It is an experience that everyone should have the chance to enjoy. This same guy wants the new mid-engine corvette now. Don't blame him.

This. Can't compare with a 5y old car and lame excuse by presenters about not being able to borrow a new one. Add a few corners and there is no contest on feel and sports car DNA.
