End of an Era - The Final Few EDs Comprehensive Compilation

Hi all!

The purpose of this thread will be for those of us that have scheduled a last hurrah ED for the coming final 4 months of the program to exchange experiences, thoughts, ideas, travel info, etc. Go ahead and post your build/tentative build, order process, delivery dates, trip plans and the elephant in the room - coronavirus. As everyone posts, I'll be happy to share links to everyone's individual journal threads so they can all be located and navigated to.

Updated 06-19-20 with following builds...correct me if yours is wrong! FOURTEEN SO FAR, ALL 6MT!!! If everyone, when they get to it, posts their individual journal threads, I'll plan to keep them updated below the builds!

My goal is to take delivery on September 30, hopefully in the afternoon and hopefully also joined by Donnie Isley (BMW PC instructor) willwin2day who will (we hope) be joining me for some of the trip and leading a group to the Ring for both a 2-day section training and 1-day lapping. I'll be doing only the lapping as I've done the section and a 2-day lapping session in the past with this group. Donnie has some spots open I think for both sessions still. Details on past events: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1718627

Aside from that, I've done European Delivery in the past - link: (https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1315020) and will plan to incorporate some sort of mix of the Alps and the flats of the continent. That said, if it's all open, a blast down to the Pyrenees and Bordeaux may be on the list. The other option is to go east for a more central Europe experience. I'm a junkie for road trips...so anything will do. Drove my M4 across the country last summer for Advanced M School at VIR. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1642054

I'll plan to try to update with travel information as we head forward. To start, I believe Germany plans to maintain current shutdowns/travel restrictions until June 14. At present, I believe non-German citizens or nationals or EU Citizens are prohibited from entry absent some limited essential activities. I don't know the opening plans after that date.

congrats for getting in one of the last EDs. I did Aug 1st 2019 same build SO but DCT. one if not the best experiences in my life. I will miss ED. was already looking to buy a 3 series in couple of years just so I could drive through Bavarian countryside again in my brand new BMW.

Travel FAQ

UPDATED 7/12/2020

The European Union adopted a protocal on 7/1/2020 that outlines how member states will open their borders and which 'third countries' (Non-European Union Countries) can enter. Below is a FAQ to help everyone understand the current state.

Are US Citizens allowed into Europe?
No. As of 7/1/20, due to the rate of infection found in the United States, US citizens will NOT be allowed into European Union member states.

When will US Citizens be allowed travel to Europe?
The next review will be conducted on 7/15/2020 and a new list of allowed countries will be published.

What is the criteria the European Union is using to evaluate which countries will be allowed to enter?
As regards the epidemiological situation, the third countries listed in Annex I should meet in particular the following criteria:
– close to or below the EU average, as it stands on 15 June 2020, of new COVID-19 cases over the last 14 days and per 100 000 inhabitants;

– the trend of new cases over the same period in comparison to the previous 14 days is stable or decreasing; and

– the overall response to COVID-19 taking into account available information on aspects such as testing, surveillance, contact tracing, containment, treatment and reporting as well as the reliability of available information and data sources and, if needed, the total average score across all dimensions for International Health Regulations (IHR). Information provided by EU Delegations based on the checklist annexed to the Communication of 11 June 2020 should also be taken into account

Furthermore, one additional criteria will be considered:

In order to lift the temporary restriction on non-essential travel into the EU with regard to the third countries listed in Annex I, reciprocity should also be taken into account regularly and on a case-by-case basis.

What is the current level of infection in the EU?
As of 6/27/20, the EU has an infection rate of 16 per 100,000 citizens.

What is the current level of infection in the US?
As of 7/1/20, the US has an infection rate of 87 per 100,000 citizens, 5x higher than the threshold.

What is the historical trend for infection rate in the US?
Overall, the US is on a positive trend:
Last 7 Days: 87.34
Last 14 Days: 150.94
Last 30 Days: 256.56

OF NOTE:
Infection Rate is a lagging indicator, meaning the most recent data is most likely to increase. The past 14 day infection rate is a good balance between stable/accurate data and recency.

How often is this list reviewed?
Every two weeks, the list of third countries referred to in Annex I should be reviewed, and as the case may be updated, by the Council, after close consultation with the Commission and the relevant EU agencies and services following an overall assessment based on the methodology, criteria and information referred to in paragraph 2.

I read that third country nationals can enter Germany with a negative COVID test. Does this mean I can get into Germany for European Delivery, provided I test negative?

Based on information from the below link, Germany has in fact, altered their guidelines in terms of who needs to quarantine when entering the country. However, this is for essential travel only. Unfortunately, this will not apply to non-essential travel (leisure, vacation) and "US citizens may enter Germany only if they serve in an important role or if there is an imperative need for their travel." Great thread and appreciate you starting this!!

Quick intro - I'm from the Minneapolis area and this will be my very first ED! I currently drive a 2014 228 (Tuned via Burger tuning but that's it) but in the past have heavily modded an E90 335 (favorite car ever) along with a B6 S4 (second favorite car ever).

I submitted pre-registration for a 2021 M2C, 6MT (of course), LBB, blue stitching, carbon fiber interior, and Sunroof. Thinking about Executive Package but not sure yet. My dates start on 8/19 (my bday), then 8/30 and 9/13. I have not yet heard back but hopeful I hear something today

Haven't planned out any travel yet but want to visit as many countries as possible! I'll be going through the forums over the next few days to get some ideas.

I've never been so excited for a new car!!!

@marshall834 you're most welcome...I forgot I'm definitely getting exec pack. I'd pay the $1200 for the heated wheel alone. Adaptive lights are great too.

Thanks for the added info...you've clearly been doing more research than I have at this stage...I'm operating under the optimism that it will be better by then.

Definitely, if it's your first, go for as many countries as possible.

As for flights...United let's you hold fares for 14 days for $22. Now, I'd much prefer a direct Lufthansa flight from LAC to MUC, and for my two week window they were hovering around $2263 the other day...for BUSINESS! I locked in RT business for a tad more for 14 days on UAL through SFO. If my date gets locked and the LH deal is still available, I'm going with that and I'll eat the fare lock. As for that price generally, well usually RT economy to Munich, at least direct from LAX, is $2200-2500. Silver lining somewhere, right.

Speaking from personal experience/preference, take the flight via SFO because the UA 777 has the upgraded seats and they're pretty nice (and private!)
LH's business class product sucks, hardcore. Although their service and friendliness is better. So it's your call lol

My 2021 M2C is on order - Hockenheim Silver, Orange accents, 6MT, Executive Pkg, black wheels.

Waiting on confirmation, but my first proposed pickup date is September 18th. My order and delivery dates were submitted on May 8th - haven't heard confirmation from the dealer yet.

My plans include a long run for roughly 1200 miles - running down through Innsbruck, Venice, Florence, Genoa, Milan, then back up through Zurich and Stuttgart, eventually stopping at a BMW dealer for my post-break-in service, before heading over to Nürburgring. After that, it's up through Brussels, to Amsterdam, and then over to Bremerhaven to drop the car off at port.

From there, we'll taxi to Bremen, where we will take a train over to Berlin, then another train back to Munich to fly out.

I think that September is going to be a good bet - we should be pretty well in the clear from this round of COVID-19, with just some relatively minor restrictions remaining, like wearing masks. Assuming we do see a resurgence in the fall, as many are suggesting, it shouldn't start to hit until late October, so we're well in the clear.

I wasn't planning on buying this M2C - I had originally planned to grab something else, while I waited to see what the G80 M3 LCI looked like in a couple of years - but BMW announcing the end of European Delivery has forced my hand, not that I'm upset at all. This has been a big one on my bucket list, along with hitting the Autobahn and Nurburgring, so I knew I had to pull the trigger immediately! I tend to go through cars quite quickly, so I'm hoping the additional emotional attachment from having such a grand adventure will help quell that a bit. Only time will tell, I suppose!

Thanks for the advice...it appears the metal has changed to a 789, I believe. The seats I snagged though, 1A, have the larger footwell in the UAL 789.

The LH flight to MUC isn't terrible...you do need to be forward enough in the J cabin to get the meal you want...they seem to always run out of the beef/pork option. They've changed the route to a 380 from a 340, so that's nice. Honestly, I just like direct. If we were in normal price land, I'd probably be on AAL via LHR trying to snag a C fare from a premium economy booking.

I am also hopeful restrictions will be light by then. If you haven't been, once you reach the southern tip of Germany, Austria and the Alpine region, it's a different world and I don't expect them to be wearing or demanding masks. Imagine a European version of Texas, if you will. Should be very delightful. I also think a "fall resurgence" is more likely a November-December event. It's just the natural lag in how the earth cools. I am hopeful that my early December trip to Antarctica (which was canceled in late March due to covid) is still on by then.

I also did not intend on ordering an M2. Having been to many schools with BMW in the past few years, it's by far the best car they make and I always want one when I go, but the M4 was good enough. This decision by BMW really just forced my hand!

Would be quite amusing if this was their goal - force a bunch of peoples' hands while travel is cheap, but cars aren't selling.

In all seriousness though, the only place I've been outside of the US has been to the U.K. for work - so this is going to be a whole new world for me!

Hope your Antarctica trip holds, that sounds amazing!

If you're comparing the 789 to the LH product then I would definitely fly LH, the seats are practically the same but the LH service is better.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the information here. I am trying to thread the needle on getting an ED delivery scheduled. I was planning on doing this in 18 months or so, with the new M3. Unfortunately, I have to hopefully take what I can get. Good luck to everyone on trying to make this happen.

Updated travel restrictions above - German travel ban extended to JUN-15.

It seems like a lot of us were planning a 2021 ED but were forced to do it now. Hopeful this works out!!

Thanks for that...just read that Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein plan to fully open their borders on June 15. Italy plans to allow free travel starting June 3. Germany plans to lift travel restrictions on Schengen travelers.

This is progress! Will it extend to U.S. arrivals? We can hope!

I moved my M2C ED from June 13 to Aug 13th, confirmed. I'm really hoping that is far enough out.

All three of us moonroofs, didn't expect that! Sounds like BMW ED coordination is somewhat flexible if we need to change dates around, FYI. They've been great to work with.

I may even switch to the blue bc i love LBB. That said, I am holding out hope they release misano to the regular comp pack for final year, similar to how they released san marino to the M4 in the final year.

As for the sunroof, I normally wouldn't order one, but for the final run, ED, stick car that will never be as quick around a track as a DCT, it makes sense. That said, I may yet ditch it and go for the driver pack...because Autobahn.

Garage List
I placed an order for my car with requested delivery of early to mid September. I know it got submitted to BMW NA, so waiting for final confirmation. I was working with two different dealers and looks like both submitted. BMW NA did email to confirm what dealer I wanted to order through, so I think that is a positive sign.

Exactly. Haha, I rented an E92 M3 hourly from the Welt one time and nearly maxed it out. It was pretty fun and wasn't mine.
