BMW M2 CS Gets 450 HP (Specs and Info From Exclusive Preview Event)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
M2 CS details from the private preview event held in Belgium yesterday:
  • 450 hp
  • Manual gear box, DKG optional
  • Adaptive suspension
  • Red caliper sport brakes, carbon ceramic optional
  • 763 M wheel gold or black, regular or sport cup tires,no change in tire size
  • Carbon fiber parts: hood, roof, outside mirrors, trunk lip, front spoiler lip, rear diffuser, central console, door handle
  • Chrome m2 cs badge on the trunk
  • Alcantara on side of the seats and doors like on the M2C, additional alcantara on top of the central console and on the dash board (ipo of the regular or carbon trim). CS embroied on the alcantara dashboard trim
  • Alcantara steering wheel optional
  • M4 Competition seats with red stitching and I believe Merino leather (for sure not Dakota). Dashboard and top door panel remain same than on the M2C and therefore imo do not blend well with the finer grain leather
  • M Performance exhaust
  • Back seats cannot be folded anymore
  • 4 paints only : Alpine White,Misano Blue,Hockenheim Silver and Saphire Black
  • Apparently no claim by BMW of any weight saving
    • Update: Regarding the weight I asked twice. First time I was told that BMW does not claim any saving for this car (vs the M2C). I asked again to another BMW person later and after checking his laptop he said weights look identical. I stealthily saw the screen and could read in 2 columns 1575 kg. If this a EU weight it would correspond to 1500 kg (a figure mentionned to another forum member) DIN, representing a 50 kg saving vs the M2C manual. If 1575 kg is a DIN weight it could be a figure for the DCT version but in that case would just be identical to the M2C with DCT. From what we know about the car I hardly see how they could have gained 50 kgs. I suspect that if there is any gain it is relatively modest and therefore not worth to advertise.
  • Climate control unit seems a little bit different than on my late 2018 M2C
  • Start of Production : 3/2020
  • End of Production : 12/2020 i.e 9 months production only
  • 2200 cars worldwide, 100 for Benelux
  • No word of a possible CSL version after (believe they were clueless more than trying to hide anything)

Was definively not convinced by the combo blue paint /gold wheel/red caliper. Others combo should work better. Also think the large mesh of the carbon roof does not look that nice. The dome of hood is not very noticeable although there is first a side recessed part than an elevation (may be this was due to the light of the room or the paint)

Should definitely be a great car but the base price is high (95 K Euro in Belgium) considering that it is mainly M performance and M4 competition bit and pieces added. Does not really feel unique.

M8 competition in frozen blue was also on display in the adjacent show room. Looks great but it is a big car !

I really don't get the BP members who seems to always talk about how Porsches are better. They're easy to find and secure at a very affordable price point, so put your money where your mouth is and just go buy one. I've owned many of them and they are great, but the pcar Kool-Aid hasn't blinded me as to what is uniquely special about ///Ms.
Had a GT3 for 2+ years....loved it driving it everywhere BUT the city - so I agree with you that the BMW Ms are more versatile for real-world driving.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for the GT4 to drop in price

No worries mate, I was just being giddy.

Sounds like a lot of money for what is basically an M2C with the mperformance parts bolted on.

Was the bonnet like the M3 / M4 cs or was it like the mperformance version?

That's with like 20% VAT added, so more £68,000 or $85,000 USD - they way us Yankees factor pricing.

Our VAT is @20% so I assume it’ll be similar?

I think BMW thought that they prolly under priced the OG M2 meaning they made a huge profit - just didn't drive a stake through the heart.

Make-up time w/ this CS.

I was out when I sat in the M4CS - now I'm way out if it's close to $85K.

My car runs great btw! - Love it even more now! Haha.

I would think $85K too. M3 CS was $98K base so M2 CS has to be lower. Also new GT4 is $100K base and new 911 carrera base is $98K so definitely M2 CS has to be lower than these price points.

Yes, that the conversion I was referring to; I confirmed the VAT is 20% off £85,000 you quoted and came up with a rough calculation of $85,000 USD - give or take a few bucks..

Here, in the US, the tax rate percentage varies by state but it's not "included" in overall sticker price, as it's done in Europe.

Whelp, think I'm more than fine with the M2C. Guess if I want more power I'll just add a tune. That price just doesn't seem like a good value (to/for me).

Keep in mind a direct currency conversion does not give us our USD MSRP. BMWNA has control over this and prices things specific to our market/country. ...at one point I heard "in the 70's" for USD base. Time will tell.

Not really impressed to be honest. They just slapped on a bunch of carbon bits and gave it a tune. Still same car with just a tune. No mention in weigh savings? Probably because there is hardly none. Little bit disappointed..

I imagine the active suspension adds some weight to it...?

In the 70's makes me feel better. No way it can be as much as a base 911.

Imo neither, it has a recess (assuming it is the correct word in English) part on both sides in the longitudinal direction then an elevation making the dome. In the perpendicular direction, in between the dome and the bmw logo there is then a relatively large vent

In Belgium base prices (including 21%VAT)

M2C : 65 K
New M2 CS = 95 K
New 718 Cayman GT4 = 99 K
New 718 Spyder = 96 K
New 911 Carrera = 108 K
New 911 Carrera S = 122 K

I am sure the situation will be different in the US... The GT4 and Spyder are definitely the bargain here if you can get one.
