New Order (after engine failure)

My M2C (delivered in Nov 18) failed a crank journal (bearing) at 1700 miles, and BMW has taken the car back and ordered me a new one.

My new car is due build in Apr 19, and I'm just checking there are no "new" options on the MY2020 cars.

Are there any differences between MY2019 and MY2020 cars?

Thanks, Ben

Only thing I have been hearing is the darker tail lights. No other hardware/software changes. MSRP remain same as well.

Btw, was your original Manual or DCT?

Thanks

DCT - and it was run in correctly, not above 5500rpm before running in service, and sympathetic use of the the right foot with no long constant RPM / throttle drives.

I'm surprised they took the car back and didn't just swap the motor

A knocking sound a "pulling away" RPM, I initially thought it was transmission noise.

Yes, they have loaned me a brand new BMW 530 M Sport while my new car comes.

They ordered me a brand new M2, and got it moved up the build schedule.

They are doing me a deal on some M Performance parts.

They covered the money I have spent on PPF / ceramic paint protection.

Things go wrong, that's life, it's how you deal with them that counts... and Park Lane BMW have been very good about it. I would recommend them.

I told them I wouldn't take back a 1700 mile car that had been pulled apart that much, and had suffered an engine failure so early in it's life.

They didn't put up much a fight. Very fair dealer Park Lane BMW UK.

Wow, impressive, when my Shelby GT350 blew its engine at 7k miles I got nothing. Dealer wouldn't even give me a loaner, 6 weeks later they gave my car back filthy and with some new scratches. Needless to say won't be going there ever again.

That's good to hear, you're lucky you have a good dealership.

My dealer would probably find every single opportunity to blame the issue on me, before attempting a fix. If they even took it back they probably would try to make me pay extra on top for delivery and dealer fees...

My policy - stay OEM, but for dumping that hideous exhaust boiler.

I would tick the 'CS' option. It's a very nice package. Very nice indeed.

Ben, I remember your posts when you got the car.

Can't believe it's gone like that, at least BMW UK have done the right thing by you. And you get a newer car out of it!

They are good when things f##k up in my experience. They had my new M6GC in for warranty issues for 6 weeks, they paid the finance for 2 months, gave me a new X5 40d loaner & threw in £200 of accessory vouchers,..

hahaha.... like women and children. if you spoil them early they'll expect to be treated in that manner for the rest of their lives. (disclaimer: my wife, kids, and M2 have all been spoiled).

I just got my DCT M2C from BMW Park Lane on 1st March. It's good to know they are looking after you like this 👍🏻

That's so rare and unfortunate! Sad truth is no engine can be 100% without any chance of some fluke failure, that's why there are warranties. That's why I'm going to wait for a while before any mods that can void warranty no matter how low the risk. Makes you wonder how long those engines running 700-900 hp will really last
