Question M2 LBB Front Bumper bottom scratch damage

Happy New Year!

Scratched the bottom of the front bumper when using a bottle-shop's driveway, a bad random decision), didn't know the entrance was way higher than anywhere else I usually go, heard the scratch noise, the result was worse than I thought, sigh...

Not sure if DIY using touch up paint kits would make it not noticeable, most fix examples were not the lower (bottom) of a bumper.

I've seen Prodigy. using BMW touch up fix paint kit in the forum. He did mention not to bother with BMW touch up paint. Dr Colorchip (or Color N Drive maybe?) can do touch up fix jobs.

See the photos attached for details.

I'd like to hear you guys' comments / advise on how to get this fixed (no need to be perfect, as long as it's not noticeable), DIY using touch up fix kits, on spot touch up fix services, etc?

NOTE: Ideally I don't want to get the whole front bumper sprayed and painted (not just because there is film on it, but also the bad experience I previous had with various body workshops) for this type of damage.

Last but not least, I hope all Bimmers safe and sound in year 2019 and the years to come.

Apology for the upside down pictures, the forum doesn't offer me an option to rotate it.

I'd try Dr colorchip. Worth a shot. But those are pretty deep and fairly large.

Tbh i don't think Dr Colorchip or any touch up paint will fix this, lots of rough edges by the looks of it so will need to be sanded back first to get a decent finish.
Best it will do is cover up some of the black of the bumper but will still look pretty rough i reckon.

Thanks, I think the same. It's small but professional job.

Anyone has recommendation for this kind of fix? Touch up guys?

A friend of mine used Touch Up Guys before to fix a couple of chip damages (he mentioned there was even a hole on the bumper), result was good. But I've seen mixed results at Whirlpool.

So I am going to give "Touch Up Guys" a call and get a quote, also try a proper respray - https://propaintauto.com.au/bumper-bar-repairs/

Take it from there.

Most likely I'll give up the idea of DIY. I'd prefer to let the pros do the job and I'll use my professional skills to ear that money back LoL

I agree I think it needs sanding and painting. I tried Dr Colorchip and anything but the tiniest of chips it was useless.

Which city are you in? I have a guy that patched my front bumper licensee plate holes. Did a fantastic job at my house.

Thanks for the input.

I am in Sydney. About to give the ProPaint Auto (mobile services) guys a call and take it from there, I prefer a small area respray to touch-up in this case.

Have you thought about a lip? Not sure if there are any that cover that much but maybe an excuse for a cosmetic upgrade.

Front spoiler lip will only make the M2 even worse to drive around daily ;-(

What was I thinking. I mean that's the whole problem that got you this scrape in the first place. I hope you get it sorted proper. Good luck mate!

ProPaint Auto guy did a decent job on spot (he's got 18+ years car painting experience, - wow), overall I am happy with the result.

NOTE: 1 minor flaw though, the front bumper has Paint Protection Films on, a tiny bit of the LBB paint went under the triangle tip of that piece of film (see it in 2nd photo of the original post) at its end, only noticeable at very close distance with attention. The guy mentioned that this is the first time he repair/paint a car with PPF on, the front bumper is in an excellent condition considering it's a MY2016 model with 12000kms.

It cost A$330, plus a bottle of mixed BMW Long Beach Blue C16 metallic paint.

I am going to put PPF on the 2 trapezoid blades above/below the outer inlets (removed 4 black carbon fibre stickers fitted by previous owner, found a couple of stone chips on each side), doors and panels around the rear wheel arches, probably roof as well depending on price, just for peace of mind taking it out for a spin or on track.

That looks like a great result.
Could I just ask about what the guy had to do with the ppf? Did he have to remove and cut off the ppf from the damaged sections?

Right intake

There is no PPF on the 2 trapezoid blades above/below the outer inlets - removed 4 black carbon fibre stickers fitted by previous owner - not to my taste so no worries when respraying.

If there was PPF, I think it'll be removed anyway (as it's broken) and new PPF needs to be put on.

A belated thanks to the OP. I used the same Pro Paint guy on your recommendation after a mechanic scraped the crap out of my 135i front spoiler. He did an amazing job. Not just for the price, but a great job.
