Think it's approriate to start a new thread sharing some dyno results of mine and my friends'.
My car is a Euro Spec M2 MY2017 on FBO plus STG1 turbo on 98RON (93AKI), custom tuned by ProTuning Freak. No meth, No PI, No ethanol. See more on my build link below. http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1416389 All runs are on same day and same dyno. Numbers are corrected to STD Smoothing 5, to the liking of US guys here. As it's a cool day (ambient temp 50F, humidity 50%), heat soak isn't our problem. BTW, the uncorrected numbers would even be a bit higher, due to negative correction factor (cool ambient temp). I'm running a progressive boost map. Not until 4000rpm do I apply more load than a typical N55 EWG OTS tune that nowadays could be found just everywhere and that goes flat out with boost surge at down low. My map starts to really shine from 4k5 up, pushing as hard as fuelling and octane allow and holding aggressiveness to redline, which is well reflected with a flat torque curve and a power peak at 6200~6300rpm - not your average N55 EWG tunes that stop making more from 5500. Truth is, with a proper baseline, breaking 400whp is right next to impossible for a stock turbo N55 on pump gas. There is only so much you can do tuning around fueling and octane limit. My baselines are as following: 1) M2 bone stock - 340whp 2) M4 ZCP bone stock - 396whp 3) The N55 1/4 mile record breaking (11.11@125mph) 335xi PWG PS2+Meth - 460whp, it holds 25psi and 10+ignition as log shows. Everyone else on here of similar setup pushing 25psi would definitely show you 500+whp. ![]() Let the pictures speak then ![]()

Nice work. What downpipe are you using? How would you compare your results to tehboosts’s FBO, no turbo upgrade on 91 octane results?

Got a log of the runs?
My HCP PTF Map 16psi made 375AWHP 433AWTQ in 90F / Eurocharged Toronto Dyno when I took a family trip up to Niagara Falls back in September. I suspect this NEW PTF OTS Map with all the new tables that was released after November has a better powerband since I also tested against some of my friends ![]()

I like that you went for top-end power over low-end torque. I don’t understand why so many people love the idea of monster low-end torque when the car physically can’t put it to the ground in the first couple gears. Nice looking powerband, man!

1) Intake air heat 2) Fuel pump stress. 3) The RPM range on WOT is always above 4k, except on 1st gear where power is limited by traction anyway. To me, low end boost makes nothing valuable but the bragging right of "Maximum Torque" on dyno paper. Quote:
I have not done 1/4 mile testing on STG1 turbo. But my stock turbo constantly did 12.3@115~116mph on 93OCT, beating your time already. haha ![]() Quote:
Tehboost's 400whp was very solid. From his log, load is strong all the way to 5k5 rpm on exceptionally good timing for 91OCT (almost capped out all the time). No idea how crappy CA 91OCT holds up that well. I reviewed many other 380-400whp logs and knew they're nothing but hypes, compared to Tehboost. At 5k5 rpm, Tehboost's peak power point, his boost was 1.5psi lower than mine (corrected to same IAT), but on slightly better timing. That should be some 10whp difference at that point to my guess, which means he'd be 390whp on my dyno everything else being equal.

Below is a time I did in Oct 2017 on a conservative map. Probably I'd do 0.3-0.5s better with current map. But not tested yet.
Stock m2 does high 10s from the same testing equipment. BTW 140i stock does 11+s that I guarantee you.

very cool for a STG1 Turbo, since you're the first one

Haha I like how Li Wang just had to add the octane booster - I bet he didn't want to accept the 460whp
![]() Great post Sean! Confirm what I have always been saying. Maxing out the PS2 will not net you 500whp - more likely 500 crank hp and change.

Driving M4 all the time, I am familiar with S55 characters. It has a responsive bottom end and a torque blast from somewhere 3k~4k, all the way to fuel cut.
So my motor is tuned like a S55 except for a smoother and earlier power build up. Quote:

You're with me. Always be conservative (or realistic) on numbers.
Wang accepted it, because making record with less power is something to be happy about. Generally, hybrid turbo is overrated, even more so in N55 world where there's no real competitions as of yet. Let me be completely unbiased by saying this - STG1 turbo is not a rewarding mod in terms of power. All it nets you is 20whp more in peak and a better top end. Everything being equal, PS2 flows 3psi more, beyond that it's pushing turbo off efficiency. Plus it's already out of pump gas territory. So credit also goes to higher octane and cooling liquid. PS2 is less restrictive from turbine end for sure but god knows by how much. For 500+whp it's just a little too ambitious if your dyno reads right.

On stock BW turbo frame, beyond STG1 everything is a tradeoff - well I even thought STG1 compromises spool up a bit until log and dyno prove otherwise. Along with power goal, you will want to think about what to give. To me, injection kit of any kind and flex fuel are no-goes. Which means, without DI fueling solution, I don't even consider STG2 as an option.

Do you think there are similar results possible (on a lower power level of course) without a turbo upgrade? 99% of all the tunes are losing power up top from 5500 rpm on to redline. I am looking for a tune which makes peak power up top at 6000-6500, but cant find any (except maybe active autowerke, but not sure about their dynochart). My car is FBO as well. Fuelling won't be an issue since here in europe we got the good stuff. Cheers! |
