Aftermarket Warranty?

So i was wondering how does an aftermarket warranty work? My car started smoking and turned out to be VCG. The repair was $900. The aftermarket warranty wouldve repaired that or how does this work? Anybody have an aftermarket warranty? Currently looking at route 66. I already contacted them and im waiting for an answer and in the meanwhile i decided to post on here. Any thoughts?

Normaly warranties cover you for 3 years or 36k miles which ever comes first. Depending on what type of coverage you get is the ammount that you would have to pay up-front. Then everytime you file a claim you have to pay a deductable.

Coverage on aftermarket warranties varies, read the fine print prior to purchasing.

Mine recently covered $1200 for my VCG at the dealer.

You can also call your local dealer and have them quote you over the phone for the different coverages.

I got Route 66 5 months ago but have not used it. My car only has 10K miles. The plan I got is supposed to cover everything, but wear and tear. No deductible with Route 66, at least on my plan. Supposedly, I can have my work done at the dealership if I wish to.

Geico breakdown service

This worked great for me. There is a $250 deductible for each repair, but you get coverage for expensive repairs for a very low premium cost. I think the cost is about $12 / month. They paid for all of my BMW dealer repairs with no problem. The service advisor calls them to get approval for the repair and they pay them directly. All done on the same day. I save a lot of money. https://www.geico.com/auto-insurance...own-insurance/

Look like you have to start the coverage within 15 months of purchase of the vehicle.

Seems like it'll be $3000 for my car. Quite expensive.

Yes, you must buy in within 15 months. Overall, I've found my BMW to be pretty reliable. There is maintainence for wear and tear items, but I've had few failures. I'm at 145K and still on the original water pump. Maybe I got lucky, but the GEICO breakdown insurance provides extra protection without laying out 3-4K up front.

It seems like buying an Aftermarket Warranty is like gambling at a casino.

On the average, the house always wins.

That's not to say you won't get lucky but on the average the insurance company will win (provided they crunched the numbers properly)

I just called GEICO and you have to be the original owner of the vehicle .. You have 15 months and/or 15K miles when purchasing the new vehicle. You are not eligible for this coverage if you buy as used car.

does these aftermarket warranty companies cover the factory turbos? Anyone actually had
it covered?
